Frivolous spenders Chelsea are head and shoulders above the rest in terms of money spent this summer, but a surprise name follows in second. As Brighton’s summer spending nears the \u00a3200 million mark, it is worth unpacking how an immaculate business model has allowed them to flex their financial muscles this window.<\/strong><\/p>\n

How Much Have Brighton Spent This Summer?<\/h2>\n

Matt O’Riley’s \u00a325m arrival from Celtic this week pushed Brighton’s summer spending up to \u00a3170m, seeing them creep up just behind a typically avaricious, free-spending Chelsea<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The difference in perception of the two clubs at this current moment is stark. Brighton’s algorithm-led approach to unearthing hidden gems has proved mightily effective in recent years, and this uncharacteristically expensive window is only seen as an elevation of that strategy.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Chelsea are also hoping to lay the foundations for the future, but their scatter-gun approach appears somewhat slapdash as they attempt to juggle the most bloated squad in the league’s history.<\/p>\n

Despite indulging in a lavish summer by their usual cautious standards, they have still quietly added a handful of some blossoming talents on the cheap. Most notably, Amario Cozier-Duberry on a free transfer is the pick of the bunch; Arsenal fans need not reminding of the pain at seeing one of Hale End’s brightest prospects head for the exit.<\/p>\n
