{"id":38249,"date":"2025-03-04T11:24:36","date_gmt":"2025-03-04T11:24:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.sportscasting.com\/uk\/?p=38249"},"modified":"2025-03-04T11:24:36","modified_gmt":"2025-03-04T11:24:36","slug":"petr-cech-defends-arsenal-emi-martinez-sale","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sportscasting.com\/uk\/news\/petr-cech-defends-arsenal-emi-martinez-sale\/","title":{"rendered":"Petr Cech Defends Arsenal&#8217;s Decision to Sell Goalkeeper Emi Martinez"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-pm-slice=\"1 1 []\"><strong>Petr Cech has defended Arsenal\u2019s decision to sell Emiliano Martinez, despite the goalkeeper\u2019s success with Argentina and Aston Villa. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-pm-slice=\"1 1 []\">The former Gunners shotstopper believes the move was necessary for Martinez to reach his full potential.<\/p>\n<p data-pm-slice=\"1 1 []\">Despite being highly regarded within the club\u2019s academy, Martinez was often overlooked, leading to multiple loan spells.<\/p>\n<p data-pm-slice=\"1 1 []\">His breakthrough in the first team finally came during Project Restart in 2020, when he stepped in for an injured Bernd Leno and delivered stellar performances, helping the club win an <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow sponsored\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sportscasting.com\/uk\/news\/fa-cup-quarter-final-draw-bournemouth-host-manchester-city-and-aston-villa-visit-preston\/\">FA Cup<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p data-pm-slice=\"1 1 []\">However, Arsenal opted to sell him for \u00a320 million to Aston Villa in September 2020.<\/p>\n<h2 data-pm-slice=\"1 1 []\">Cech\u2019s Defends Arsenal\u2019s Martinez Sale<\/h2>\n<p>Speaking to <em>Amazon Prime<\/em>, Cech reflected on Martinez\u2019s time at Arsenal and talked about why he found it difficult to establish himself at the club.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou could always see his ability, but he had too much energy at Arsenal,\u201d Cech said. \u201cIt wasn\u2019t until he found a way to channel it into one direction that he really developed and went to the next level.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cech believes that Martinez\u2019s move away from Arsenal allowed him to refine his game and flourish into the world-class goalkeeper he is today.<\/p>\n<h3 data-pm-slice=\"1 1 []\">Martinez\u2019s Rise to Stardom<\/h3>\n<p>Since leaving Arsenal, Martinez has enjoyed immense success. He played a crucial role in Argentina\u2019s 2022 World Cup victory, as well as their two Copa America triumphs.<\/p>\n<p>His performances for Aston Villa have also been outstanding, helping them secure a top-four Premier League finish last season.<\/p>\n<p>Despite his achievements, Martinez has been vocal about his disappointment with how Arsenal handled his situation.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to <em>Sky Sport<\/em>s in 2021, he expressed frustration over the club\u2019s lack of faith in him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI still love them, and I&#8217;m still watching the games, but I just felt like they didn&#8217;t trust me like they should have,\u201d Martinez said. \u201cThey kept buying goalkeepers to go in front of me, and I was the goalkeeper from the academy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-pm-slice=\"1 1 []\">Now an integral member of Unai Emery&#8217;s Aston Villa, Martinez has continued to prove himself among the Premier League\u2019s elite goalkeepers.<\/p>\n<p data-pm-slice=\"1 1 []\">This season, he has kept eight clean sheets in 38 appearances, and his next challenge awaits in the Champions League, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportscasting.com\/uk\/news\/club-brugge-vs-aston-villa-preview-prediction-team-news-and-predicted-lineups\/\">Villa taking on Club Brugge<\/a> in the round of 16.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Petr Cech has defended Arsenal\u2019s decision to sell Emiliano Martinez, despite the goalkeeper\u2019s success with Argentina and Aston Villa.
