{"id":38890,"date":"2025-03-06T15:06:01","date_gmt":"2025-03-06T15:06:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.sportscasting.com\/uk\/?p=38890"},"modified":"2025-03-06T15:06:01","modified_gmt":"2025-03-06T15:06:01","slug":"drive-to-survive-toto-wolff-promise-lewis-hamilton-max-verstappen","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sportscasting.com\/uk\/news\/drive-to-survive-toto-wolff-promise-lewis-hamilton-max-verstappen\/","title":{"rendered":"Toto Wolff Reveals Max Verstappen Promise He Made To Lewis Hamilton In New Season Of Drive To Survive"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Toto Wolff promised Lewis Hamilton he would not pursue a move for Max Verstappen it has been revealed in Drive to Survive season seven.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The popular Netflix series returns on Friday with 10 episodes of behind-the-scenes action from last year &#8211; just one week ahead of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportscasting.com\/uk\/news\/new-f1-season-start-full-2025-calendar-sprint-races-and-driver-lineups\/\">new 2025 season.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Verstappen and Hamilton famously went toe-to-toe for the championship in the 2021 season.<\/p>\n<p>Hamilton looked destined to win a record eighth drivers&#8217; championship before a controversial late safety car allowed Verstappen to pass the Brit for the win and the title at the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.<\/p>\n<p>The 40-year-old told Sky Sports in 2023 that he would &#8220;100 per-cent&#8221; be open to partnering Verstappen &#8211; but claimed the Red Bull driver didn&#8217;t want to be his teammate.<\/p>\n<p>However, new claims from Wolff in Drive to Survive appears to suggest that Hamilton did not want Verstappen to be his teammate during his time at Mercedes.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">&quot;I promised Lewis not to talk to him [Verstappen] &quot; \ud83d\udc40<\/p>\n<p>Toto Wolff on trying to sign Max Verstappen when Lewis Hamilton announced his move to Ferrari \ud83d\udcdd\ud83c\udfce\ufe0f<\/p>\n<p>Formula 1: Drive to Survive Season 7 launches 7th March \ud83d\udcfa <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/UBmeIJDSPv\">pic.twitter.com\/UBmeIJDSPv<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Sky Sports F1 (@SkySportsF1) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SkySportsF1\/status\/1897618974566699025?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 6, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<h2>Toto Wolff&#8217;s Promise To Lewis Hamilton Over Max Verstappen<\/h2>\n<p>During the new Drive to Survive season, Toto Wolff is seen discussing with his wife Susie about who to sign following Lewis Hamilton\u2019s announced departure to Ferrari &#8211; with<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportscasting.com\/uk\/news\/max-verstappen-threatens-to-boycott-f1-launch-event-booed-london\/\"> Max Verstappen&#8217;s<\/a> name thrown into the mix.<\/p>\n<p>After running through several names, Verstappen is brought up. It is at that point where Wolff reveals that he promised Hamilton that he wouldn&#8217;t look to bring in Verstappen as his teammate.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to Susie at the balcony of their home in Monaco, Toto said: &#8220;<em>So Carlos (Sainz) is somebody to look at.<\/em> He&#8217;s had some really good performances.<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;Fernando (Alonso), I mean race pace, racecraft is still very good<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Susie replies that Alonso would be an <em>&#8216;interim option<\/em>&#8216; before asking whether Verstappen would be an option.<\/p>\n<p>Toto immediately responds: &#8220;<em>I think he is.
