Manchester United have unveiled \u00a32bn plans for a 100,000 seater stadium to replace Old Trafford, which would make it the most expensive football stadium in the world.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe described the project as the “world’s greatest football ground” and it is hoped to be completed within five years, as per Sky Sports.<\/a><\/p>\n

Manchester United’s plans <\/a>come as Old Trafford has become outdated<\/a> with a lack of investment and inferior facilities with a leaky roof and cramped concourses among other issues.<\/p>\n

Should a new stadium be completed for \u00a32bn as planned, it would move United’s new home to the top of the list in terms of the most expensive football stadiums in the world.<\/p>\n

The current list without Manchester United<\/a> does include Everton’s<\/a> upcoming new home at Bramley-Moore Dock. Everton’s new home pushed West Ham’s London Stadium out of the top 10.<\/p>\n

Below, SportsCasting<\/a> has the current full top 10 for the most expensive football stadiums in the world.<\/p>\n

10 Most Expensive Football Stadiums In The World<\/h2>\n

10 – Krestovsky Stadium: \u00a3500 Million<\/h3>\n

Starting the list of the 10 most expensive football stadiums in the world is Krestovsky Stadium in Russia.<\/p>\n

The stadium was built ahead of the 2018 World Cup. It hosted seven games\u00a0at the tournament including Belgium’s third-place playoff win over England.<\/p>\n

Known as the Gazprom Arena for sponsorship purposes, it was originally supposed to host the 2022 Champions League final before it was moved to Paris due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.<\/p>\n

The 67,800 seater which has a retractable roof and has been likened to having a spaceship design, is currently used by Zenit St. Petersburg.<\/p>\n

9 – Santiago Bernabeu: \u00a3500 Million<\/h3>\n

Real Madrid might be the most famous team in the world but their Santiago Bernabeu home is only ninth on the list of the world’s most expensive football stadiums.<\/p>\n

It wasn’t one of the most expensive stadiums when originally built but their recent renovations in 2023 was worth \u00a3500m.<\/p>\n

Big changes included a retractable roof, improvement of seating areas and new towers on the west side of the ground.<\/p>\n

8. Estadio Nacional – \u00a3600 Million<\/h3>\n

The Estadio Nacional is next on the list after costing \u00a3600m to construct – though further renovations since it was built in 1974 are expected to take this figure up.<\/p>\n

It seats over 69,000 fans and hosted games at the 2013 Confederations Cup and the 2014 World Cup.<\/p>\n

It is the second-largest stadium in Brazil behind the Maracana and the venue also hosts concerts.<\/p>\n

7 – Bramley-Moore Dock: \u00a3800 Million<\/h3>\n

Everton will move out of Goodison Park and into their new home on Bramley-Moore Dock next season.<\/p>\n

It was originally slated to cost \u00a3500m. However, papers submitted to the Premier League’s appeal board regarding their points deduction in 2023-24 revealed that the true cost was around \u00a3800m.<\/p>\n

The 52,000 seater stadium will be a host venue for Euro 2028.<\/p>\n

6 – Olympic Stadium In Montreal – \u00a31 Billion<\/h3>\n

The next stadium on this list was built for the 1976 Olympics which were held in Montreal.<\/p>\n

It was nicknamed the ‘Big O’ which refers to the shape of the primary part of the stadium roof. It was also referred to the ‘Big Owe’ due to the high cost of construction and hosting the Olympics.<\/p>\n

MLS side CF Montreal has used the venue when demand for tickets justifies the 66,000 capacity. It is also used when weather restricts outdoor play at the nearby Saputo Stadium which is their primary home.<\/p>\n

5 – Tottenham Hotspur Stadium – \u00a31 Billion<\/h3>\n

The most expensive Premier League stadium on this list is the home of Tottenham Hotspur.<\/p>\n

Having opened in 2019, it is one of the newer stadiums in the list and it has a state-of-the-art design.<\/p>\n

It has a 63,000 capacity and an interchangeable pitch to accomodate NFL games and concerts.<\/p>\n

4. Singapore National Stadium – \u00a31 Billion<\/h3>\n

The Singapore National Stadium is another ground that cost \u00a31bn after opening in 2014.<\/p>\n

It has a 55,o00 capacity and is one of the most technologically advanced venues in the world.<\/p>\n

The stadium is home to the Singapore national team. It is also a regular location for Premier League teams to visit during pre-season friendlies.<\/p>\n

3. Mercedes-Benz Stadium – \u00a31.1 Billion<\/h3>\n

Although the stadium is primarily home to the Atlanta Falcons of the NFL, it is also where Atlanta United of the MLS play their football.<\/p>\n

The stadium was hosted in 2017 and will host a number of matches at the 2026 World Cup.<\/p>\n

It boasts a capacity of 71,000 and is popular for its unique design and state-of-the-art facilities.<\/p>\n

2. Wembley Stadium – \u00a31.1 Billion<\/h3>\n

Wembley Stadium is the biggest in England but could be overtaken if Manchester United’s plans for a 100,000 ground come to fruition.<\/p>\n

The England national team play their home matches in front of 90,000 fans inside the iconic ground which is one of the most expensive stadiums in world football.<\/p>\n

Wembley hosts the FA Cup semi-finals and final and was also used in the final of Euro 2020 where England lost to Italy on penalties.<\/p>\n

1- Yankee Stadium: \u00a31.7 Billion<\/h3>\n

While the New York Yankees is the most famous team to play at this stadium, New York FC also plays at the venue hence why it is included in this list.<\/p>\n

The venue has a capacity of just over 28,000, but this can be expanded to over 45,000.<\/p>\n

It opened in 2009 and at $1.7bn is the most expensive football stadium in the world. Despite the significent financial investment, the stadium is unable to host international football matches as it fails to meet the set criteria.<\/p>\n
