Strand Larsen Hands Wolves Major Boost In Relegation Battle<\/h2>\n

Knowing that a victory would likely move them nine points clear of the relegation zone, Wolves travelled down to the south coast to take on bottom of the table Southampton in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.<\/p>\n

The Saints, who led at half time against Liverpool<\/a> last time out before losing 3-1, headed into the tie off the back of a dreadful six-game losing streak. The Old Gold, meanwhile, were winless in three.<\/p>\n

Despite the hosts enjoying the better of the opportunities throughout the opening stages, it was Wolves that took the lead on the 19-minute mark. Jorgen Strand Larsen, in Matheus Cunha’s absence, headed home the opener from Jean-Ricner Bellegarde’s beautifully whipped cross from the right-hand side.<\/p>\n

Strand Larsen went on to double his and his side’s tally on the afternoon two minutes after returning from the interval, sweeping his effort beyond Aaron Ramsdale from the edge of the area, assisted by Bellegarde once again.<\/p>\n

Southampton put up a fight and halved the deficit in the 75th minute, with half-time substitute Paul Onuachu tapping into an empty net after Tyler Dibling’s shot struck the post, but they were unable to find a leveller.<\/p>\n

It leaves Ivan Juric’s side 17 points adrift of safety, with relegation now all but confirmed. As for Wolves, they move nine points clear of the relegation zone, and the best football betting sites<\/a> have them at around 12\/1 to suffer the drop.<\/p>\n
