Thomas Tuchel has split opinion after selecting his first squad as England manager, but how would the team look if it was selected through FotMob ratings?

The German manager will take charge of his first games as Three Lions boss and has made some interesting selections in his opening squad.

Jordan Henderson, Marcus Rashford and Kyle Walker have all been included in the squad despite underwhelming seasons – leaving some fans questioning Tuchel before a ball has been kicked.

Many called for the inclusion of Morgan Gibbs-White and the Nottingham Forest star has now been included after Cole Palmer was forced to withdraw through injury.

Fans have complained about picking players based off reputation and not performances this season, so we have looked into the England squad and picked a starting eleven if it was picked via the player rating system at FotMob.

England Squad: Starting XI Based Off FotMob Ratings

* From Top 5 European Leagues in each position

GK: Jordan Pickford – 7.18

The Everton number one has been one of the first names on the England team sheet since the 2018 World Cup and has continued to perform at Goodison Park.

Pickford was irreplaceable under Sean Dyche and has kept his place during David Moyes’ return to the blue half of Merseyside.

In 29 Premier League matches, the Englishman has kept nine clean sheets and has saved both of the penalties he has faced this season.

RB: Trent Alexander-Arnold – 7.48

Trent Alexander-Arnold is on course to win his second Premier League title this season and has been a pivotal member under Arne Slot.

His future at Liverpool has be surrounded with uncertainty this season, as rumours over a move to Real Madrid continue to grow and he is yet to agree a new deal.

Once again Trent has been a threat in Liverpool’s attack, contributing to six goals (2G+6A) and would have been a certain member of Tuchel’s squad if he was not injured.

CB: James Tarkowski – 7.05

A surprising addition to this team is Everton’s stalwart defender, James Tarkowski – who is the highest rated English centre back in the Premier League.

The throwback defender has been a steady presence in Everton’s defence once again and even provided their biggest moment of the season by scoring a last minute equaliser in the final Merseyside Derby at Goodison Park.

Tarkowski has not appeared for the Three Lions in almost seven years, last donning the kit in September 2018.

CB: Eric Dier – 7.20

The duo in the centre of defence could raise a few eyebrows as according to FotMob’s rating, Eric Dier has achieved the highest score out of all the English central defenders on average.

Dier is currently on the books at Bayern Munich and actually played under Thomas Tuchel at the Allianz during the German’s underwhelming stint as Bayern Munich manager.

This season, Dier has started eight matches and even registered an assist from defence – but this lack of game time may be the reasoning for his FotMob average rating.
