{"id":41158,"date":"2025-03-18T16:12:35","date_gmt":"2025-03-18T16:12:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.sportscasting.com\/uk\/?p=41158"},"modified":"2025-03-18T16:12:35","modified_gmt":"2025-03-18T16:12:35","slug":"f1-bosses-hold-talks-over-potential-new-grand-prix-thailand","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sportscasting.com\/uk\/news\/f1-bosses-hold-talks-over-potential-new-grand-prix-thailand\/","title":{"rendered":"F1 Bosses Hold Talks Over Potential New Grand Prix In Country That Has Never Hosted A Race"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The potential of Thailand hosting a Grand Prix in the future appears to be closer, after F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali held talks over a street race in Bangkok.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Thailand, as per <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorsport.com\/f1\/news\/domenicali-holds-potential-f1-thailand-grand-prix-discussions-in-bangkok\/10704647\/\">Motorsport.com<\/a>, have been keen for some time to bring Formula One to their country.<\/p>\n<p>The country in Southeast Asia has never hosted a<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportscasting.com\/uk\/tag\/f1-2025\"> Formula One<\/a> Grand Prix but has a driver racing under their flag, in the form of London-born Williams driver Alex Albon.<\/p>\n<p>F1 has had mixed success in Asia with races in Japan, China and Singapore hosting races this season. However, F1 didn&#8217;t race for long in South Korea and India. While plans for a Grand Prix in Vietnam were foiled by Covid-19.<\/p>\n<p>Thailand&#8217;s previous prime minister attended the 2024 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix to hold talks with Domenicali.<\/p>\n<p>The F1 Ceo travelled to Thailand after the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportscasting.com\/uk\/news\/australian-gp-driver-ratings\/\">Australian Grand Prix<\/a> and ahead of this weekend&#8217;s Chinese Grand Prix for talks with current prime minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra.<\/p>\n<h2>F1 Boss Holds Talks Over Future Thailand Grand Prix<\/h2>\n<p>Stefano Domenicali has been left &#8216;impressed&#8217; by plans for a future Thailand Grand Prix.<\/p>\n<p>After the meeting on Tuesday, he said: &#8220;<em>I was delighted to meet with Paetongtarn Shinawatra, the Prime Minister of Thailand, and her team to discuss their impressive plans to host a race in Bangkok.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;I am looking forward to continuing our discussions in the weeks and months ahead.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The race would be held on a street circuit in Bangkok. He finished eighth in the inaugural F1 drivers&#8217; championship and won two non-championship races.<\/p>\n<p>It took 65 years for Thailand to get another driver on the grid in Alex Albon.<\/p>\n<p>Albon has 107 entries and two podiums &#8211; both with Red Bull in 2020. The prospect of a race would be helped if Argentine driver Franco Colapinto returns to a race seat in the near future to boost expected attendance.<\/p>\n<p>There are also plans to bring Formula One to Africa &#8211; given that the last race in the continent was 32 years ago.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sport\/formula1\/articles\/cq8k55exqvko\">BBC<\/a> reported in January that South Africa and Rwanda are contenders for a future race.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The potential of Thailand hosting a Grand Prix in the future appears to be closer, after F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali held talks over a street race in Bangkok.
