His old foe, Max Verstappen, finished second, just +0.018 behind. McLaren&#8217;s Oscar Piastri (+0.080) out-qualified his teammate and Australian GP winner Lando Norris, who came home in sixth (+0.544).<\/p>\n<p>After the session, Hamilton admitted he did not expect his Ferrari to out-qualify Piastri and Norris&#8217; McLarens.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<em>I didn&#8217;t expect that result, but so happy and proud. The last race was a disaster for us, there was more performance in the car but we couldn&#8217;t extract it<\/em>,&#8221; said Hamilton (via Formula 1).<\/p>\n<p>He added:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<em>I&#8217;m just a bit gobsmacked, I&#8217;m a bit taken back by it. I didn&#8217;t know when we would get to this position. <\/em><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<em>After last weekend, it was a difficult start to the week.
