Angel Gomes has received his first senior England call-up ahead of September’s Nations League fixtures against Ireland and Finland.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Interim boss Lee Carsley has kept faith with the former Manchester United<\/a> player – whom he managed for the U21 side between 2021-2023. Naturally, fans on X<\/em>, formerly Twitter<\/em>, were quick to praise the decision.<\/p>\n

Unsurprisingly, most of the approval came from supporters of the Red Devils. Consequently, many are keen to see the 23-year-old given his debut in the upcoming games.<\/p>\n

One user – with the handle UTDFaithfuls – said the call-up was ‘thoroughly deserved.’ Another user went on to post a compilation video of Gomes’ best highlights.<\/p>\n

Angel Gomes’ England call-up was not the only surprise that Lee Carsley had in store when announcing his maiden senior squad. Morgan Gibbs-White, Tino Livramento and Noni Madueke were also included for the first time.<\/p>\n

All three have impressed in the Premier League<\/a> in recent times but fans will be excited to see Gomes in action. Currently, he plies his trade at Ligue 1 Lille.<\/p>\n

Gomes made the move from England to France in 2020. He signed a five-year deal with Les Dogues and was immediately loaned out to Portuguese side Boavista.<\/p>\n

Last season, Gomes provided 12 goal contributions across 45 games in all competitions. This was enough to convince Lee Carsley to give him his chance.<\/p>\n

“Angel is different to what we would’ve seen in the past in terms of the central midfielder who is more physical and robust.<\/p>\n

“He’s very technical, controls the game with his skill and technique, he’s very determined and has an excellent attitude.<\/p>\n

“He’s a player who people are going to really be excited to see,” Carsley explained. Three Lions fans will be keen to see their newest star-in-the-making in action next month.<\/p>\n
