Manchester United’s season has taken another hit with the update that Joshua Zirkzee will miss the remainder of the campaign due to an injury.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The 23-year-old Dutch striker, who joined the club for \u00a336.5m from Bologna in the summer, suffered the injury during United’s 4-1 defeat to Newcastle.<\/p>\n

Ruben Amorim has confirmed the extent of the setback with the Dutch forward set to miss the rest of the season.<\/p>\n

What Injury Did Joshua Zirkzee Suffer?<\/h2>\n

The latest Manchester United update is that Joshua Zirkzee will be out for the rest of the season with a hamstring injury.<\/p>\n

He was substituted in the 55th minute of the heavy loss to Newcastle after going down to the ground. He was replaced by Rasmus Hojlind.<\/p>\n

In his press conference ahead of facing Lyon in the second leg of the Europa League quarter-final, Amorim said: “He (Zirkzee) is out for the season. He will not play again this season. Let’s prepare him for the next one.”<\/em><\/p>\n

He added: “It is tough, he was improving in every aspect of the game. It is tough for any player but he has to be ready to recover.”<\/em><\/p>\n

Zirkzee will likely be back in the fold for the beginning of the 2025-26 season. There was some better news for United fans however as Amorim said Matthijs de Ligt could return this month, while Amad Diallo might play before the end of the season.<\/p>\n

Zirkzee’s Tough First Season At Old Trafford<\/h2>\n

The injury update for Joshua Zirkzee ends what has been a mixed bag of a first season at Old Trafford.<\/p>\n

The Netherlands international has struggled to find consistent form. He finishes the season with seven goals and three assists in 48 appearances across all competitions.<\/p>\n

His adaptation to the Premier League’s physicality and pace has been challenging. Recent performances though suggested he was beginning to find his feet.<\/p>\n

Zirkzee scored an excellent header to put United 2-1 up in the Europa League first-leg tie with Lyon last week.<\/p>\n

However, a late error by Andre Onana allowed Rayan Cherki to equalise and take a 2-2 scoreline to Old Trafford on Thursday.<\/p>\n

Zirkzee had been linked with a move away from Old Trafford around the time of the January window. However, it would be a surprise to see him move on to another club this summer.<\/p>\n

Will Andre Onana Play Against Lyon?<\/h2>\n

As well as providing an injury update on Joshua Zirkzee, Ruben Amorim also addressed the subject of his Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana.<\/p>\n

The shot-stopper was left out of the squad altogether for United’s 4-1 defeat to Newcastle at the weekend.<\/p>\n

However, despite rumours linking him with the exit, Amorim confirmed Onana would be back in the squad on Thursday night.<\/p>\n

He said: “As a former player, I try to do things that can help a player in this situation. We have to manage players both physically and mentally.<\/em><\/p>\n

“Onana is ready, he had one weekend that was better for him not to play and better for Altay to play. This week, my thinking was to put Onana to play.”<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
