Four-time champion flat jockey Oisin Murphy has been at the centre of car crash rumours after missing rides on Sunday due to ‘travel issues’.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Murphy, 29, was back at Windsor and riding on Monday, with some reports alleging he’d been involved in a car accident.<\/p>\n

The exact circumstances of the rumoured crash are not yet clear. It is understood that the incident may have happened just hours after Murphy rode at Leicester Racecourse<\/strong> on Saturday (April 26th).<\/p>\n

But despite a statement (see below) by Thames Valley Police – the jockey involved in the crash, that led to their female passenger being seriously injured, is yet to be named.<\/p>\n

It’s now been confirmed that Oisin Murphy has been charged with drink driving<\/a> and will appear in court on July 3rd 2025.<\/p>\n

Oisin Murphy Car Crash Rumours Follow Sunday Absence<\/h2>\n

Saturday’s action saw Murphy ride a 33-1 treble across the horses he partnered for six different trainers in seven races.<\/p>\n

But his absence was keenly felt as he missed four further rides at Southwell<\/strong> on Sunday.<\/p>\n

According to the British Horseracing Authority’s<\/strong> (BHA)<\/strong> stewards’ report, Murphy suffered from ‘travel issues’<\/em> and was unable to attend.<\/p>\n

But agent Gavin Horne told The Mirror<\/em>: “All I know is Oisin had a car accident and that is it. He is fine and racing tonight (Windsor, Monday 28th April)<\/em>.”<\/p>\n

Oisin Murphy also rode two winners – Sea Founder and Tycoon – at Windsor on Monday night.<\/p>\n

While Murphy was also in action at Nottingham on Tuesday afternoon – but failed to ride a winner.<\/p>\n

He’s back riding at Ascot on Wednesday, when he rides hot favourite Coltrane in the Group 3 Sagaro Stakes.<\/p>\n

Horse Racing Fans Speculate On Social Media<\/h2>\n

While nothing has been confirmed yet, it hasn’t stopped horse racing<\/strong><\/a> fans from sharing theories as to what happened with Oisin Murphy’s alleged car crash.<\/p>\n

Separate reports have appealed for witnesses after a crash which left a young women seriously injured in Berkshire – but the identity of the jockey has so far not been confirmed.<\/p>\n

All that’s been said is that a jockey was arrested after a car accident on Sunday morning, which left his female passenger in hospital.<\/p>\n

It’s been confirmed the unnamed jockey was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. Plus also failing to provide a specimen for further analysis.<\/p>\n

The jockey was then bailed pending further police investigations.<\/p>\n

Thames Valley Police issues a statement saying<\/strong><\/h4>\n

\u201cThames Valley Police is appealing for witnesses to a serious injury road traffic collision in Hermitage, West Berkshire.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cAt around 12.05am on Sunday, on Marlston Road, a single vehicle, a grey Mercedes A Class, crashed into a tree. Both occupants of the vehicle required medical attention. With a woman aged in her twenties taken to hospital with serious injuries, where she remains at this time.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cA 29-year-old man from Hungerford has been arrested for causing serious injury by dangerous driving and failing to provide a specimen for analysis. He has been released on police bail.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Why Was Oisin Murphy Banned Before?<\/h2>\n

This isn’t the first time Murphy has been caught up in controversy.<\/p>\n

In 2019, he failed a breath test for alcohol. Though under the legal drink-driving limit, he was over the limit to ride and missed a day’s racing.<\/p>\n

In November 2020, Murphy was banned for three months after testing positive for cocaine at a meeting in France.<\/p>\n

Murphy claimed that he had never taken cocaine himself, but tested positive after sleeping with a woman who had used the drug.<\/p>\n

And in December 2021, he was charged by the BHA for breaching COVID-19 travel protocols.<\/p>\n
