As we race nearer to the fourth British horse racing Classic of the season – it’s worth noting that the final Epsom Derby declarations will be announced 72 hours before the race – which is a full 24 hours earlier than a normal horse race in the UK.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The thinking here is to give race planners and the horse racing media more time to promote the race. Not to mention punters extra time to study the form armed with the final Derby draw and jockeys.<\/p>\n

Epsom Derby Declarations and Draw Will Be 72 Hours Before The Race\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n

In the UK, the final runners for ANY horse race are known 48 hours in advance.<\/p>\n

This applies to both codes – flat and jumps.<\/p>\n

Which means this Saturday’s (7th June) Epsom Derby declarations would normally be announced on Thursday 5th June at around 10am.<\/p>\n

However, in a bid to help promote the race – the 2025 Epsom Derby final runners, riders and the draw will be revealed 72 HOURS in advance.<\/p>\n

Therefore, punters and the horse racing press around the world will know which horses will be trying to win the 246th running of the Epsom Derby on Wednesday 4th June.<\/p>\n

By bringing the final Epsom Derby runners forward 24 hours, this is expected to help the build up to the race.<\/p>\n

The Derby, which was first run in 1780, has a long history and is also often billed as the best flat race in the world – so race organisers this year have decided to declare runners early in order to help the race gain more interest.<\/p>\n

These early Derby declarations will now allow horse racing punters more time to study the form – armed with the final jockeys and draw.<\/p>\n

Plus, the racing media around the world will also embrace the change, giving them added time to promote the fourth English Classic of the season.<\/p>\n

In 2024 the Derby was shown by a record 36 broadcasters and across a massive 160 different territories around the world.<\/p>\n

The Derby will also become the first Group One race in Britain to declare their final runners 72-hours ahead of the race on Saturday.<\/p>\n

With the Derby draw expected around 10am on Wednesday 4th June, with final jockey bookings to be confirmed by 1pm on the same day.<\/p>\n

Where Will The 2025 Epsom Draw Take Place?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The 2025 Epsom Derby Draw will be held at the Epsom Picturehouse in the centre of town.<\/p>\n

Horse racing officials and the media are expected to be invited to the event, with the draw set to take place between 10am and 11am on Wednesday 4th June.<\/p>\n

The Epsom Picturehouse, which was formed in 1989, is situated on Derby Square in Epsom – with the new-look cinema having only opened in June 2024.<\/p>\n

While instead of the old randomly generated way of doing the Epsom Derby Draw, this year the horses will be given their draws by the traditional method of picking balls.<\/p>\n

FA Cup Draw Equipment To Be Used For Epsom Derby Draw 2025<\/strong><\/h3>\n

With Epsom Downs Racecourse and The British Horse Racing Authority have also teamed up with the Football Association to use their famous FA Cup draw balls and equipment for the draw.<\/p>\n

Racing TV will also be there to broadcast the draw live.<\/p>\n

The Epsom Derby draw also hit the headlines for the wrong reasons in 2024, with the \u00a31.5m race criticised for doing the draw outside in the town centre using ping-pong balls.<\/p>\n

With cupcakes on show and being compared to a village fete – so will be looking for a more positive response in 2025.<\/p>\n
