Well, since the starting stalls were first introduced in 1967, there are still FOUR Epsom Derby draw numbers that are yet to produce a winner &#8211; plus one berth that have seen a stonking eleven winners.<\/p>\n<h2>Starting Stalls Were Introduced To The Epsom Derby In 1967<\/h2>\n<p>Before 1967 the Epsom Derby used to begin with a standing start &#8211; just like the Grand National is today.<\/p>\n<p>However, from this date the world famous race has used starting stalls or gates &#8211; meaning all the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportscasting.com\/uk\/news\/epsom-derby-runners-guide-and-draw-2025\/\">Epsom Derby runners<\/a> now start on a more level playing field.<\/p>\n<p>Many would also think that with the race being run over 1m4f &#8211; then the Epsom Derby draw doesn&#8217;t really matter too much &#8211; wrong.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ll explain why the Derby draw has a big impact on the race below.<\/p>\n<p>But with the starting stalls now dating back to 1967, this means we&#8217;ve now built up 58 years of stalls data &#8211; and there have been some surprising results.<\/p>\n<p>With the Epsom Derby draw for some numbers having far better returns of producing the winner than others &#8211; with FOUR gates still winless since 1967.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Gates 2, 11, 16 (and 20) HAVEN&#8217;T Produced a Derby Winner Since Stalls Were Introduced<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>If these Epsom Derby draw stats are to be believed &#8211; then you might want to think twice about backing horses from stalls 2, 11 and 16.<\/p>\n<p>Why? Well, since 1967 and the first Derby run with starting stalls &#8211; this trio of gates are STILL TO HAVE A WINNER.<\/p>\n<p>Yes, in 2022 (Westover) and 2023 (White Birch) came from gate 2 to finish third, but like stalls 11 and 16 &#8211; there has been a &#8216;STANDOUT STALL&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>Step forward NUMBER 10.<\/p>\n<p>This Epsom Derby draw has seen a staggering ELEVEN winners since 1967 &#8211; which equates to a 19% return.<\/p>\n<p>Therefore, with his cracking strike-rate it would be foolish to ignore this year&#8217;s Epsom Derby runner from gate 10 &#8211; LAMBOURN.<\/p>\n<p>This 3 year-old is also one of the more fancied horses that is also one of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportscasting.com\/uk\/news\/aidan-obrien-derby-runners-epsom-2025\/\">Aidan O&#8217;Brien Derby runners<\/a> &#8211; who is the most successful trainer in the history of the race (10 wins).<\/p>\n<p>Plus, what makes this incredible draw stat even more interesting is that the gate right next door to ten (11) is still to produce a winner.<\/p>\n<p>Since 2018 there have been two winners from stall 10 &#8211; well, the answer is TEN, with his most recent success coming only last year (2024).<\/p>\n<p>His latest winner was City Of Troy, who bounced back from a poor run in the 2000 Guineas to reward favourite backers at 3\/1.<\/p>\n<p>He was also the Ryan Moore Derby ride that year and gave the top rider his fourth win in the race.<\/p>\n<p>City Of Troy came from gate 1 &#8211; and was the second winner from that stall since 2021.
