After his most recent controversy, Conor McGregor is once again in the news for all of the wrong reasons. Join us as we examine all previous Conor McGregor controversies including a timeline of his arrests, court cases and legal troubles over the years.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Living his life in the public eye, the Irishman has got himself in a spot of bother on numerous occasions.<\/p>\n

Timeline Of All Conor McGregor Controversies<\/h2>\n

Conor McGregor is one of the biggest stars in the history of MMA. His sporting accomplishments inside the octagon cannot be denied, but outside of his career as an athlete, he has had various run-ins with the law.<\/p>\n

The Irishman has had countless controversies over the years, with the latest sparking more public debate and various reactions. His actions outside of sports have attracted significant criticism, as well as his provocative use of social media too.<\/p>\n

McGregor’s reputation has declined due to these various legal troubles, of which there have been numerous. It’s fair to say that the first ever two-division simultaneous UFC champion has seen a rapid decline in his reputation as a result in recent years.<\/p>\n

Inside the octagon or boxing ring, ‘Notorious’ is a phenom. Fans love him and the way he fights. However, outside of sporting combat, he isn’t the most popular of men in the public eye.<\/p>\n

With that in mind, join us as we examine each of Conor McGregor’s controversies over the years. This includes a timeline of his legal issues, court cases, arrests and more.<\/p>\n

Bus Attack At Barclays Center – April 2018<\/h3>\n

One of the first serious incidents of Conor McGregor’s career came in April 2018.<\/p>\n

This came after footage emerged of the Irishman and his team attacking a bus with various objects. This included throwing a hand dolly and a guard rail amongst other items at a bus after a UFC media event at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.<\/p>\n

The bus attack shattered the vehicle’s window and windshield, with several UFC fighters on board getting injured. This in turn forced them to withdraw from their upcoming bouts due to injury.<\/p>\n

This attack was reportedly an act of retaliation against fellow UFC fighter and bitter rival Khabib Nurmagomedov. UFC President Dana White, who’s net worth has surpassed half-a-billion dollars<\/a>, condemned the attack.<\/p>\n

The Irishman did issue an apology for his actions in injuring fighters involved in the feud. However, McGregor didn’t express any remorse for his actions, claiming that they were justified. As a result, McGregor faced three counts of assault.<\/p>\n

Around three months after the initial bus attack incident, McGregor reached a plea agreement with the NYPD. The deal resulted in the dismissal of felony criminal mischief and his assault charges, sparing him imprisonment or loss of a travel visa.<\/p>\n

As a result of the plea deal, McGregor completed five days of community service and agreed to attend an anger management course. At the time, McGregor stated:<\/p>\n

“I just want to say I\u2019m thankful to the D.A. and the judge for allowing me to move forward.”<\/em><\/p>\n

Sexual Assault In Dublin – December 2018<\/h3>\n

The Irish authorities began investigating Conor McGregor in early 2019 for an alleged sexual assault involving a woman at a Dublin hotel in December 2018.<\/p>\n

McGregor has always denied these allegations, and still does to this day. There was also a complaint filed against the UFC superstar by a women claiming he had sexually assaulted her in a car outside a Dublin pub too. Again, McGregor denied these allegations.<\/p>\n

Fast forward to November 2024 and the Irishman was found liable for sexual assault over the Dublin hotel incident. This came after the woman in question, Nikita Hand, filed a civil lawsuit against the 36-year-old, seeking damages for personal injures and rape.<\/p>\n

To this day, despite being found guilty last November, Conor McGregor continues to deny these accusations.<\/p>\n

Florida Robbery Arrest – March 2019<\/h3>\n

By Conor McGregor’s standards, this controversy isn’t one of his worst. In March 2019, around five months after his loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229, the Irishman was captured via security camera grabbing and destroying the phone of a fan, Ahmed Abdirzak, who was attempting to take a photograph of McGregor at Miami beach.<\/p>\n

The Irishman was arrested and charged with criminal mischief and strong-armed robbery. For this, McGregor spent several hours in prison before dropping his civil lawsuit. After this, authorities opted not to pursue a criminal case and the victim and the UFC fighter reached an out-of-court settlement.<\/p>\n

Shortly after the case was dropped, Khalil Madani, Florida Assistant State Attorney, noted:<\/p>\n

“Due to the witness’s credibility issues, his unwillingness to respond to a subpoena, and the inability of witnesses to testify to his subjective mindset, the State of Florida cannot prove the charges against Mr. McGregor beyond a reasonable doubt.”<\/em><\/p>\n

Assault In Dublin Pub – April 2019<\/h3>\n

One of the highest profile controversies on Conor McGregor’s rap sheet is his Dublin pub assault incident back in August 2019.<\/p>\n

This incident was once again captured on video, which showed McGregor punching a pub customer after he repeated declined a shot of Proper No.12 Irish Whiskey – McGregor’s own brand of whiskey which he had launched in 2018.<\/p>\n

The incident happened at around 2.30pm on April 6, 2019 at the Marble Arch Pub. In the video, the victim, Desmon Keogh, a man in his 50s from south-west Dublin, was on the receiving end of a McGregor punch.<\/p>\n

Seven months after the incident, the Irishman pleaded guilty to assault. He also paid a fine to avoid a possible six-month prison sentence. Keogh also received an undisclosed sum of money as compensation.<\/p>\n

It was reported that during the court proceedings, McGregor, who tops the list of the Top 20 highest paid UFC fighters of all time<\/a>, stated:<\/p>\n

“Your honour, what I have done was very wrong. I would like to apologise today to the injured party again, and to apologise here before the court. I assure you nothing of this nature will happen again regarding me.”<\/em><\/p>\n

Corsica Sexual Assault Allegations – September 2020<\/h3>\n

The next in the timeline of Conor McGregor controversies came in September 2020, when the 36-year-old was detained and questioned by authorities on the French island of Corsica.<\/p>\n

This came after allegations of sexual assault and indecent exposure at a bar on the island. McGregor spent two days in police custody before being released. No criminal charges were pursued further due to insufficient evidence.<\/p>\n

Assault Of Italian DJ – October 2021<\/h3>\n

The next of Conor McGregor’s countless controversies came after he was accused of punching and breaking the nose of Italian DJ and TV presenter Francesco Facchinetti.<\/p>\n

The incident reportedly took place outside of a hotel in Rome in October 2021, after Facchinetti and his wife had spent several hours in the company of McGregor and his fianc\u00e9e, Dee Devlin.<\/p>\n

Ironically, this supposed unprovoked attack came on the same day that McGregor and his partner Devlin had taken their third child to the Vatican to get baptised.<\/p>\n

McGregor has never been charged nor ever commented on the matter, but Facchinetti formally filed charges against the MMA phenom, stating that “he is very dangerous”<\/em> and “needs to be stopped”<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Ibiza Yacht Alleged Assault – July 2022<\/h3>\n

Conor McGregor’s next fight<\/a> may never actually come, given his constant run-ins with the law in recent years. MMA fans are still hoping he will return to the UFC very soon, but that seems highly unlikely given his current predicament.<\/p>\n

One of the reasons for this was his because of another assault claim, this time on a yacht in Ibiza. A woman in her 40s accused McGregor of physically assaulting her during his birthday celebrations in July 2022.<\/p>\n

The woman in questions alleged that the former two-weight UFC king became verbally abusive, before proceeding to punching and kicking her as well as threatening to drown her. She also claimed she injured her wrist following one of McGregor’s blows, fleeing the yacht in fear for her life.<\/p>\n

The woman was eventually rescued by a Red Cross boat, according to her testimony. She then filed a civil lawsuit against him but withdrew it in February 2023 without explanation.<\/p>\n

To this day though, no charges have been filed against the 36-year-old and McGregor denies all allegations.<\/p>\n

Found Guilty For 2018 Sexual Assault – November 2024<\/h3>\n

Next on Conor McGregor’s rap sheet is the biggest controversy to date in his life. In November 2024, McGregor was found guilty for sexually assaulting Nikita Hand at a Dublin hotel back in December 2018.<\/p>\n

Almost six years after the incident, the Irish civil jury ruled that the MMA fighter was liable for rape. The court awarded Hand \u20ac248,603.60 (approximately \u00a3212,512) in damages. This is on top of the court ordering McGregor to cover Hand’s legal costs, which could reach $1.58million<\/a> (\u00a31.17m).<\/p>\n

To this day, McGregor continues to totally deny the allegations, maintaining his innocence that the encounter was consensual. Despite being engaged to his fianc\u00e9e, the Irishman didn’t deny the intimate encounter happened, but that it most definitely wasn’t rape.<\/p>\n

Hand testified that McGregor assaulted her, leaving her with post-traumatic stress disorder and sever bruising on her body. She also testified to being choked and threatened during the encounter. A paramedic examined Hand the following day, testifying that her injuries were severe.<\/p>\n

McGregor expressed disappointment in the jury’s decision finding him liable of sexual assault, announcing plans shortly after the appeal the decision.<\/p>\n

Miami Incident During NBA Finals – January 2025<\/h3>\n

Another of Conor McGregor’s recent controversies was at Game 4 of the NBA Finals in Miami back in June 2023 at a Denver Nuggets vs Miami Heat game.<\/p>\n

Fast forward to January 2025 and a 49-year-old senior vice president at a prominent Wall Street financial institution filed a civil lawsuit against the former UFC champion, once again alleging sexual assault.<\/p>\n

The allegation against McGregor is that he assaulted the woman in a bathroom at the Kaseya Center in Miami. The plaintiff has continued to purse civil action to raise awareness and to encourage others to report sexual assault, despite an earlier criminal investigation not resulting in any charges.<\/p>\n

The lawsuit accuses the Kaseya Center staff for continuing to serve McGregor alcohol, despite being away of a heightened risk of battery. The lawsuit also implicates the venue’s security, alleging they were aware of the Irishman’s conduct but failed to provide adequate protection.<\/p>\n

Once again, McGregor’s attorney has denied these allegations. Is is an ongoing case and is currently pending in the US District Court for the Southern District of Florida.<\/p>\n

Ibiza Nightclub Fight – June 2025<\/h3>\n

The most recent controversy on Conor McGregor’s rap sheet came at an Ibiza nightclub in June 2025. In a video captured on camera, McGregor is seen striking someone in the face, knocking the victim out in the process.<\/p>\n

The footage shows McGregor throwing two punches, with the second sending the person to the ground. The victim of the attack from McGregor was reportedly removed from the venue, whilst the Irishman remained inside.<\/p>\n

As of today no allegations have been formally thrown McGregor’s way.<\/p>\n
