Aidan O’Brien Has Trained EIGHT Coral-Eclipse Stakes Winners, With His First Coming In 2000<\/strong><\/h2>\n

With the Coral-Eclipse first run in 1886 it’s amazing to think the winning-most trainer in the race is in current times.<\/p>\n

Okay, Aidan O’Brien has shot to the top of the tree is a lot of races both in England and Ireland over the last 25 years – but it’s still a remarkable feat to have bagged EIGHT Coral-Eclipse wins from his Ballydoyle base in Ireland.<\/p>\n

You have to go back to 2000 to find his first – when the gutsy Giant’s Causeway refused to give in under veteran jockey George Duffield (53) – despite the Aga Khan’s Kalanisi looking all over the winner in the final stages.<\/p>\n

Duffield also won the race nine year’s earlier with the James Fanshawe-trained Environment Friend in 1991.<\/p>\n

That win started an eight-year spell of three more O’Brien winners as Hawk Wing flew home in 2002 and Oratorio lowered the colours of that year’s Derby winner Motivator, who was part-owned by Simon Cowell<\/a>, in 2005.<\/p>\n

Mount Nelson was O’Brien’s fourth Coral-Eclipse winner in 2008 under jockey and now ITV Racing<\/a> pundit Johnny Murtagh.<\/p>\n

Then the New Zealand-bred So You Think also beat a former Derby winner (Workforce) in 2011.<\/p>\n

The sixth win in the race for O’Brien came with St Mark’s Basilica in 2021 – which ended a nine-year spell without a success in the Sandown race.<\/p>\n

Plus, led to two more recent wins with Paddington in 2023 and last year when his Epsom Derby hero City Of Troy was a short-priced 1\/4 winner to give Aidan O’Brien his eighth Coral-Eclipse win.<\/p>\n

Prior to Aidan O’Brien, who had five Royal Ascot winners<\/a> this season, the other trainers to have done well in the race were – Sir Michael Stoute (6 wins), Alec Taylor Jr (6 wins) and John Porter (5 wins).<\/p>\n
