ITV Racing Tips On Saturday 16th August 2025: Newbury, Ripon and Newmarket<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Another busy weekend of ITV Racing tips ahead with action across three tracks. With the action all on their ITV4 channel.<\/p>\n

The cameras are at Ripon to take in two races that include the Great St Wilfrid Handicap, plus the popular ‘Grey Horse Race’ at Newmarket.<\/p>\n

With the main action at Newbury, where there are four LIVE races that are spearheaded by the Group 2 Hungerford Stakes.<\/p>\n

Newbury Horse Racing Tips \ud83c\udfc7<\/strong><\/h2>\n

1:50 Newbury – Highclere Thoroughbred Racing Geoffrey Freer Stakes (Group 3) Cl1 (3yo+) 1m5\u00bdf ITV4<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Trappy race where the focus will be on Pinhole, who won well in the first-time cheekpieces at Ascot last time. They are on again and getting the 3 year-old allowance can go close.<\/p>\n

The form of the Hannon yard is not great, but their Nightime Dancer is still worthy of respect after a good second at Newmarket, but the value with the horse racing betting sites<\/a> looks to be FURTHER.<\/p>\n

This Balding horse was ahead of Pinhole at Royal Ascot tow run ago, when they were second and eighth. The grey has since flopped at Newmarket (5th) when Nightime Dancer was second.<\/p>\n

But that run looked too bad to be true and with over a month to freshen up has the form to bounce back.<\/p>\n

2:25 Newbury – Play The BetVictor Predictor Now Handicap Cl3 (3yo+ 0-88) 5f ITV4<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Many chances here – with Star Chorus, another for the Andrew Balding team, interesting. While as long as the ground isn’t too quick King Of Stars for the in-form Mick Appleby team can’t be ruled out.<\/p>\n

But GETREADYTORUMBLE and last year’s winner FAUSTUS get the nod.<\/p>\n

The former also comes from the Jack Channon yard, who won this in 2023, and comes here off the back of a fine second at Glorious Goodwood. Has a consistent profile and with only six career runs will have more to come with Tom Marquand in the plate again.<\/p>\n

Last year’s winner Faustus looks value too. He’s 2-2 here at Newbury and took this off a pound higher mark 12 months ago.<\/p>\n

Yes, he was down the field last time at Goodwood, but his is a slight drop in grade and won well the time before – again here at the Berkshire track.<\/p>\n

3:00 Newbury – TPT Fire Handicap Cl2 (3yo+ 0-100) 7f ITV4<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Jumby hasn’t won for a while but has been running in much better races than this and is another we know likes this track. He was third in the G2 Hungerford (next race) in 2024 and won that race back in 2022 too. Eased into a handicap he could be very dangerous.<\/p>\n

We’ve also got the old boy Documenting in at the age of 12. He was third in this race in 2024 off 94 and is rated 84 now, so despite his advancing age has to be noted on his 70th start.<\/p>\n

But LOU LOU’S GIFT is interesting too. From the in-form William Haggas yard, this lightly-raced filly is another one eased in grade – having run in Listed and G3 races recently.<\/p>\n

The drop back to 7f will suit too – after racing too free over a mile last time and the yard have a good record in this with two wins in the last eight years.<\/p>\n

3:35 Newbury – Visit Malta Hungerford Stakes (Group 2) Cl1 (3yo+) 7f ITV4<\/strong><\/h3>\n

This is a strange betting race as More Thunder is the expected favourite, but now up to G2 level is actually the joint lowest-rated in the field – with Fair Angellica and also have to give that runner 3lbs.<\/p>\n

In fact, he’s got to give weight away to many others in the race – all rated higher than him too. So, the betting is more on his potential, rather on what he’s actually achieved to date.<\/p>\n

WITNESS STAND, however, is already a proven G2 winner after taking the Lennox Stakes at Goodwood – winning by 2 3\/4 lengths.<\/p>\n

And you feel if he was trained by Gosden, O’Brien or Appleby then – would he really be second or third favourite here over a horse that is yet to run outside of handicap company (More Thunder).<\/p>\n

He’s the top rated in the field 118 – which is 15lbs higher than More Thunder and only has to give away three pounds.<\/p>\n

The other of interest is Duty First at a nice price.<\/p>\n

She’s been running in better races (G1) and despite some mixed results was still a fine 4th in the Irish 1,000 Guineas.<\/p>\n

Only beaten 4 1\/2 lengths to Lake Victoria. She’s also 4-1-2-3-1 over today’s 7f trip and is 1-1 here at Newbury after winning the Fred Darling here back in April.<\/p>\n

Newmarket Horse Racing Tips \ud83c\udfc7<\/strong><\/h2>\n

2:05 Newmarket (July) – Jenningsbet Grey Horse Handicap Cl4 (3yo+ 0-85) 6f ITV4<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The unexposed pair of Binhareer and Addison Grey will be popular in this unique ‘Greys Only’ race.<\/p>\n

However, we’ve also got three past winners in Archduke Ferdinand (2024), Silver Samurai (2023) and Strike (2022).<\/p>\n

All three are respected and would have had this as a target again. Archduke Ferdinand is 11lbs higher this time but has won this season off a pound lower mark.<\/p>\n

Silver Samurai is 2lbs lower than his 2023 success and the Botti yard have a cracking 36% SR with their 4+ year-olds here.<\/p>\n

While Strike was also 6th in 2023 and runner-up in 2024, with last year rated 75 and is now 3lbs lower. He likes it here on the July course too – 1-2-6-2.<\/p>\n

Ripon Horse Racing Tips \ud83c\udfc7<\/strong><\/h2>\n

2:45 Ripon – William Hill Supporting MND Silver Cup Handicap Cl4 (3yo+ 0-80) 6f ITV4<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Many chances here for this competitive 6f Great St Wilfrid warm-up. This will give us come clues on the draw too – but the Paul Midgley yard won this last year and in NOVELLO LAD look to hold a solid chance again.<\/p>\n

This 4 year-old loves this 6f trip – winning his last two over it and the form of his last win at Pontefract has been franked since with the second Sir Garfield winning in midweek.<\/p>\n

Dicko The Legend was a good winner at York last time and with that big his first run after a wind op could have more to come.<\/p>\n

While Showtime Mahomes was 4th in that same York race and can’t be ruled out on slightly better terms this time.<\/p>\n

3:20 Ripon – William Hill\/MND Association Great St Wilfrid Handicap Cl2 (3yo+) 6f ITV4<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The key trends here tell us 17 of the last 23 winners were aged between 4-6. While 90% of the last 10 winners carried 9st 1lb or less.<\/p>\n

It’s also been a good race in recent years for horses that ran in it the previous season.<\/p>\n

In the last six runnings – three winners tackled the race the year prior and this Saturday we’ve only got two horses that fit the bill – ROCK OPERA and SECRET GUEST.<\/p>\n

The former was 12th last year and is rated a pound lower but also has a 7lb claimer riding. He also hails from the Richard Fahey yard, who have won this race three times in the last 12 years.<\/p>\n

Secret Guest was third in 2024 and is only 3lbs higher this time. While last time ran well to be second at Thirsk and the form of that race has been boosted since with the 5th and 7th winning recently.<\/p>\n

He’s another that comes from a past winning yard (Bryan Smart), who took this prize in 2016.<\/p>\n

Of the rest, two of the last three winners hailed from stall 6 – so Fivethousandtoone has this stat on his side.<\/p>\n

ITV Racing – The History<\/strong><\/h2>\n

In past years it was Channel 4 and the BBC that shared the horse racing coverage in Britain.<\/p>\n

However, all this shifted in January 2016 when Channel 4 lost their UK horse racing broadcasting rights after 32 years to the ITV network.<\/p>\n

ITV Racing was launched in January 2017. It remains the only terrestrial TV channel in the UK that broadcasts horse racing.<\/p>\n

Channel 4’s last broadcast day was on December 27th 2016.<\/p>\n

When it aired the Christmas horse racing from Kempton Park and also the Welsh Grand National from Chepstow.<\/p>\n
