Eighth tier non-league outfit AFC Portchester secured their advancement in FA Cup qualifying courtesy of an incredible rabona on Tuesday.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Rabona Sends Eighth Tier AFC Portchester Through In FA Cup<\/h2>\n

AFC Portchester of the Isthmian League South Central Division secured victory over Melksham Town in the FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round in some style on Tuesday evening.<\/p>\n

Having played out a 2-2 draw in their original meeting at Melksham’s Oakfield Stadium on Saturday, the pair had to reconvene at the Wicor Recreation Ground for a replay in midweek.<\/p>\n

Looking to secure their spot in the next round, the hosts quickly took advantage in the tie.<\/p>\n

Just 13 minutes in, Portchy number nine Alfie Stanley smashed the Hampshire-based outfit in front. 33-year-old Lee Wort added a second for Gav Spurway’s side just 10 minutes later.<\/p>\n

Wort wasn’t done there though, as he extended Portchester’s advantage to three goals with an incredibly well-taken rabona finish just before the half-time whistle.<\/p>\n

A ball over the top found the non-league veteran, who turned into space with a lovely first touch before finishing over the goalkeeper’s head with a rabona to double his tally on the night.<\/p>\n

Melksham reduced the deficit through Jamal Lawrence on 78 minutes but were unable to mount a comeback, thus confirming Portchester’s advancement to the Preliminary Round.<\/p>\n

Thanks to the victory, Portchy have secured \u00a31,125 in prize money.<\/p>\n

They remain a long way away from a Premier League glamour fixture however, as they must win a further seven rounds before first tier sides such as Liverpool, who are favoured among UK betting sites<\/a> to win the FA Cup, enter the competition in 2025-26.<\/p>\n
