As the two best golfers in the world, fans want to know whether or not Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler will be teeing it up at the 2025 BMW Championship this week in the penultimate FedEx Cup play-off event.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Scheffler and McIlroy currently head the FedEx Cup standings, with both multiple major winners looking to finish the season with another FedEx Cup to their name.<\/p>\n

Is Rory McIlroy In Action At The BMW Championship This Week?<\/h2>\n

Following three weeks of rest on the PGA Tour since the 153rd Open Championship at Royal Portrush, career Grand Slam winner Rory McIlroy<\/a> returns for the BMW Championship this week.<\/p>\n

McIlroy missed the 3M Open, Wyndham Championship and FedEx St Jude Championship, but is back in action and teeing it up at Caves Valley Golf Club this week for the penultimate FedEx Cup play-off event of the season.<\/p>\n

The reigning Masters champion has enjoyed a few weeks break away from the golf course, recharging his batteries before two huge FedEx Cup play-off events to round off the season.<\/p>\n

The Northern Irishman goes into the BMW Championship this week at no.2 in the current FedEx Cup standings, but is still over 2,000 points behind world number one Scottie Scheffler.<\/p>\n

A win this week for the 36-year-old would make for an intriguing Tour Championship finale next week. Golf betting sites<\/a> have listed McIlroy as the second favourite behind Scheffler this week, with both set to do battle for the FedEx Cup again next week.<\/p>\n

Is Scottie Scheffler Playing At The BMW Championship?<\/h2>\n

Following two weeks of rest, Scottie Scheffler returned to action last week at the St Jude Championship. The American finished in a tie for third with England’s Tommy Fleetwood, and remains the man to catch in the current FedEx Cup standings.<\/p>\n

Fresh off the back of his dominant display at the 153rd Open Championship at Royal Portrush, Scheffler took a fortnight off before teeing it up at TPC Southwind for the first FedEx Cup playoff event last week.<\/p>\n

After capturing his fourth major and first Claret Jug, all Scheffler needs to complete the career Grand Slam is the US Open. This heads to Shinnecock Hills in New York next June, and you wouldn’t put it past him winning it either.<\/p>\n

Before the 29-year-old aims to create golfing history, he first attempts to go back-to-back at the season-long FedEx Cup as he bids to win a second successive title at the Tour Championship in a couple weeks time.<\/p>\n

Before the Tour Championship, Scheffler heads to Owings Mills looking to secure the top purse from the $20m BMW Championship prize money<\/a> that’s on offer this week at Caves Valley GC.<\/p>\n

The four-time major champion currently leads the standings in the FedEx Cup by over 2,000 points, and could further assert his dominance with another victory this week in Maryland at the BMW Championship.<\/p>\n

If he does, he could get one step closer to retaining his FedEx Cup title and going back-to-back.<\/p>\n

Who Is The BMW Championship Favourite?<\/h2>\n

It will come as no surprise to learn that world number one Scottie Scheffler is the overriding favourite to reign supreme at Caves Valley GC this week at the 2025 BMW Championship.<\/p>\n

Scheffler currently leads the FedEx Cup standings by over 2,000 points, meaning he more or less has one hand on a second consecutive FedEx Cup triumph barring total disaster in the final two play-off events.<\/p>\n

Behind Scheffler is career Grand Slam winner Rory McIlroy, who has been listed as the second favourite. The Northern Irishman has three FedEx Cup’s to his name, so is unsurprisingly Scheffler’s nearest challenger this week.<\/p>\n

The likes of Xander Schauffele, reigning US Open champion JJ Spaun and Ludvig Aberg are some other big names listed amongst the BMW Championship favourites this week in Owings Mills, Maryland.<\/p>\n
