Luke Donald said after his picks “I feel amazingly proud of these guys. A lot of continuity from Rome, that is a bit unusual, but shows how good they are.<\/em><\/p>\n

“But while there is continuity this is a different animal to play away in America. We know how difficult it is. I have looked at lots of different angles to try and prepare us for the challenge ahead.<\/em><\/p>\n

The news for one of Luke Donald’s Europe 2025 Ryder Cup captain’s picks was also a nice birthday treat.<\/p>\n

As Matt Fitzpatrick was celebrating his 31st birthday on Monday 1st September when he got the call from Donald.<\/p>\n

The English golfer recently finished 5th in the European Masters in Switzerland – with fellow Brit Matt Wallace, who missed out in a Ryder Cup place, tied second.<\/p>\n

However, European Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald has been impressed with Fitzpatrick this year and his previous experience in the event would have been key.<\/p>\n

“Matt said himself that he didn’t get off to the best start this year but he has turned it around impressively. Statistically no-one has been as good as he has the last three or four months. He is playing tremendous golf and it is really impressive to see his game come along trying to make this team.” <\/em>Said Luke Donald<\/p>\n

Despite his inclusion Fitzpatrick doesn’t have a Ryder Cup record to shout about.<\/p>\n

He’s one once overall and lost twice. While from his individual eight matches his just one four-balls win (7 losses).<\/p>\n

With his sole win coming when facing Xander Schauffele and Collin Morikawa at the last Ryder Cup (four-ball) with Rory McIlory as his partner.<\/p>\n

Scotland’s Robert MacIntyre was next best with 1709.94 points, FedExCup winner Tommy Fleetwood was third with 1622.11.<\/p>\n

Then the Open golf runner-up Justin Rose with 1545.72 points, Rasmus Hojgaard on 1283.56 and Tyrrell Hatton with 1279.33 points.<\/p>\n
