Six-time European Tour winner Marcel Siem has claimed he ‘didn’t cheat’ after being disqualified from the BMW PGA Championship.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This comes after Siem made a huge error on the 18th hole of his first round at Wentworth on Thursday.<\/p>\n

Marcel Siem Disqualified From BMW PGA Championship<\/h2>\n

It’s been a few weeks to forgot for German golfer Marcel Siem.<\/p>\n

The 45-year-old featured at the Irish Open last week at the K Club, looking to get his hands on some of the $6m Irish Open prize mone<\/a>y that was at stake.<\/p>\n

However, Siem was forced to withdraw from the Irish Open during his opening round due to a back injury. He rested up and opted to play at the BMW PGA Championship this week, hoping for better luck with his bad back this time around.<\/p>\n

The six-time European Tour winner had seemingly put his injury behind him, teeing off at Wentworth on Thursday for his opening round of the DP World Tour’s flagship event.<\/p>\n

Siem was priced as a huge outsider with golf betting sites<\/a> pre-tournament at odds of 400\/1. It was clear to see why this was the case, with Siem shooting an opening round of 78 strokes (+6 par). Or so he thought.<\/p>\n

After finishing the 18th hole, Siem went to sign his scorecard when he realised he’d made a huge error. The German realised that he has completed the 18th hole with the wrong golf ball.<\/p>\n

After an errant tee shot, Siem hit a provisional after some confusion between his original being out of bounds or in a water hazard. He then went on to finish the hole with his provisional ball, which ended up being an huge mistake.<\/p>\n

The 45-year-old insisted that it was an honest error, and that by no means was he trying to gain an advantage. He even took to social media after being disqualified to confirm that by no means was he cheating.<\/p>\n
