Three-time world champion Michael van Gerwen has vowed to quit darts following his thrilling victory at the World Series of Darts Finals in Amsterdam.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This marked MVG’s first major trophy in almost two years, defeating Luke Littler in the final to clinch his first piece of major silverware since September 2023.<\/p>\n

Michael van Gerwen Vows To Quit Darts If Silverware Drought Continues<\/h2>\n

Darting superstar Michael van Gerwen won his first major title in almost two years with World Series of Darts Finals triumph this past weekend.<\/p>\n

The Dutchman reigned supreme in his home country, brushing aside the likes of Luke Littler, Luke Humphries and Josh Rock in the process to clinch the title at the AFAS Live.<\/p>\n

Van Gerwen was fifth or sixth favourite with UK betting apps<\/a> to win the World Series of Darts Finals, showing just how poor his darts have been of late by his usual incredibly high standards.<\/p>\n

The ‘Green Machine’ beat fellow countryman Wessel Nijman in round one, before defeating former world champion Rob Cross in the second round.<\/p>\n

The Dutchman then overcame world number one Luke Humphries in the quarter-finals, before beating Josh Rock in the semis and Luke Littler in the final.<\/p>\n

This victory in Amsterdam marked van Gerwen’s first major PDC title in two years. Ironically, the last major event he won was the World Series back in September 2023.<\/p>\n

After going almost two years without a major title, the 36-year-old was pleased with his performance, reminding the world that he is still a force to be reckoned with in professional darts:<\/p>\n

“It gave me so much joy – the crowd, the people around me, everything. And then, of course, when you play good darts, it helps as well.”<\/em><\/p>\n

‘Mighty Mike’ knows that he had to wait too long to experience that winning feeling again, insisting that he will quit darts if he ever has to wait another two years for major silverware:<\/p>\n

“Two years is a long time to wait for that feeling. A little bit too long for a player like me. That’s not going to happen again. I think I quit darts before that,”<\/em> said MVG.<\/p>\n
