Robert Whittaker has called out former UFC Middleweight Champion Sean Strickland for UFC Sydney showdown next February.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Whittaker has lost back-to-back fights to Khamzat Chimaev and Reinier de Ridder, with Strickland also losing his last fight to Dricus du Plessis.<\/p>\n

Robert Whittaker CALLS OUT Sean Strickland For UFC Sydney Clash<\/h2>\n

Former UFC Middleweight Champion Robert Whittaker has set his sights on fellow former 185-pound king Sean Strickland.<\/p>\n

The New Zealander has called out Strickland for a middleweight showdown at the next UFC Sydney show in February next year.<\/p>\n

‘The Reaper’ is eying a return to the octagon next year, and looks to be headlining UFC Sydney in February.<\/p>\n

After back-to-back losses to Khamzat Chimaev and Reinier de Ridder, Whittaker is desperate to get back in the win column and throw himself back into the UFC Middleweight Title picture.<\/p>\n

A showdown between ‘Bobby Knuckles’ and Strickland is definitely one that makes sense, given both their current standings in the 185-pound division.<\/p>\n

Should the fight get made, Whittaker would likely be a slight favourite with UFC betting sites<\/a> to defeat ‘Tarzan’. Despite losing his last two UFC bouts, the New Zealander remains one of the best fighters in the middleweight division.<\/p>\n

Appearing on the latest episode of the MMArcade Podcast<\/em>, the former UFC Middleweight Champion made it abundantly clear that he wants Strickland next at UFC Sydney for his next fight:<\/p>\n

“I want to fight in Sydney next February. That’s when I’d like to fight next\u2026 I’d love to fight [Sean] Strickland. I’ve been wanting that fight for a while.<\/em><\/p>\n

“I think it’d be a good fight. He always brings people to cards. I don’t think he’ll come all the way to Australia, but let’s see what happens,”<\/em> concluded ‘The Reaper’.<\/p>\n

Sean Strickland Responds To Robert Whittaker Call-Out<\/h2>\n

It remains to be seen whether Robert Whittaker’s next fight<\/a> is indeed against former middleweight king Sean Strickland or not.<\/p>\n

Although Whittaker has made it crystal clear that he wants to fight the American next, there could be some stumbling blocks in the way stopping that fight from actually happening.<\/p>\n

‘Tarzan’ is currently serving a ban from the UFC due to a post-fight brawl that occurred at a UFC event back in June. The 34-year-old is serving his six-month suspension until December 29, so will be free to fight again in 2026.<\/p>\n

Strickland broke his silence on his six-month UFC ban<\/a> last month, but would be back in time for UFC Sydney if he were to travel to Australia to fight ‘Bobby Knuckles’.<\/p>\n

Travelling to Australia could be the issue for the former 185-pound champion though. This is something Strickland himself said in his response to Whittaker’s call-out:<\/p>\n

“Never fighting out of America again lol,”<\/em> wrote Strickland on X (formerly Twitter).<\/p>\n

Strickland has never been overly keen on fighting abroad. That feeling has been amplified ten fold of late too following his ban. Not to mention the fact he has history with the Australian government having previously expressed issues with them.<\/p>\n

Although on paper Whittaker vs Strickland is a fight that makes sense, it seems unlikely to happen at UFC Sydney in February. However, that’s not to say that the fight can’t happen at some stage next year on US soil.<\/p>\n

Robert Whittaker’s record<\/a> could do with a win over someone like Strickland, who is still recognised as one of the best 185-pound fighters in the world. Fingers crossed the fight gets made next, whether that be at UFC Sydney or elsewhere.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
