Boxing legend Oscar De La Hoya has called for Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez to leave his long-term coach Eddy Reynoso.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Canelo’s former promoter feels the Mexican still has a few fights left at the top level, but must find a new trainer if he is to do so.<\/p>\n

Oscar De La Hoya Calls For ‘Canelo’ To Ditch Coach Eddy Reynoso<\/h2>\n

Former six-weight world champion and boxing icon Oscar De La Hoya has called for Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez to leave his long-term coach Eddy Reynoso.<\/p>\n

De La Hoya knows ‘Canelo’ extremely well, having promoted the Mexican superstar for years through Golden Boy Promotions.<\/p>\n

However, the pair haven’t exactly seen eye-to-eye of late. Since leaving Golden Boy, the former undisputed super-middleweight king has worked with Matchroom Boxing and Eddie Hearn, as well as His Excellency Turki Alalshikh.<\/p>\n

Following his defeat to Terence Crawford last time out, many people have been calling for Canelo’s retirement. Many fans feel the great Mexican superstar is visibly past his best, as Crawford showed in their undisputed clash on September 13.<\/p>\n

Canelo’s record<\/a> is now 63-3-2, with his only three defeats coming to Crawford last time out, Dmitry Bivol up at light-heavyweight and of course the great Floyd Mayweather back in 2013.<\/p>\n

One man who feels ‘Canelo’ still has plenty of life left in him is former promoter Oscar De La Hoya. However, he feels that if the 35-year-old is to fight on and be in a few more huge fights, he needs to leave his coach Eddy Reynoso.<\/p>\n

In a recent interview with Fight Hub TV<\/em>, De La Hoya revealed his concerns over Canelo’s current training regime and feels a new coach would massively benefit the four-weight world champion:<\/p>\n

“Canelo still has a chance to fight several more fights with the elites. But he needs a new trainer,”<\/em> said ‘The Golden Boy’.<\/p>\n

The Guadalajara-born fighter has been with Reynoso for several years, but De La Hoya feels the time has come to part ways with him and find a new coach for the final chapter of his career.<\/p>\n
