West Ham fans planning a boycott of Monday night’s Premier League fixture against Brentford have been left in limbo after the club opted to slash ticket prices to as little as \u00a31.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Furious West Ham supporters planned a mass boycott of Monday’s game, which will be televised live on Sky Sports.<\/p>\n

But those plans are now in jeopardy. The club has slashed ticket prices in order to try and prevent an empty stadium.<\/p>\n

Many fans feel caught between a rock and a hard place.<\/p>\n

They are battling their desire to support new West Ham manager<\/strong><\/a> Nuno Espirito Santo and the team, with a need to protest against the wider club hierarchy.<\/p>\n

The Irons won just four points from their opening seven Premier League games.<\/p>\n

They currently sit 19th in the standings, just two points above the bottom.<\/p>\n

West Ham Fans Boycott At Risk As Club Slash Ticket Prices At London Stadium<\/h2>\n

Organised by supporters groups such as Hammers United, Monday’s boycott was meant to be a show of force from a fanbase that has lost patience with the board at West Ham.<\/p>\n

But in an effort to prevent the embarrassment of empty seats at Monday’s televised game, the club have hit back.<\/p>\n

Offering tickets for as little as \u00a31, West Ham are doing everything to entice fans into attending. And it appears to be working.<\/p>\n

At the time of writing, there were just 3,172 tickets left on sale for the Brentford game.<\/p>\n

With a capacity of 62,500, 3,000 empty seats will not have the desired effect of those planning the boycott.<\/p>\n

However, that figure does not take into account season ticket holders planning not to attend.<\/p>\n

With around 48,000 season tickets at the London Stadium, the true number of fans boycotting Monday’s game will not be known until kickoff.<\/p>\n

Why Are West Ham Fans Planning To Boycott Games?<\/h2>\n

West Ham supporters are boycotting the Brentford game as part of continued protests.<\/p>\n

These protests are directed against chairman David Sullivan and vice-chair Karren Brady.<\/p>\n

In a letter from supporters group Hammers United to manager Nuno Espirito Santo and the squad, the fan group explained the reasons behind the boycott.<\/p>\n

The letter read:\u00a0\u201cAs you will no doubt be aware, prior to your arrival at the club, we launched the \u2018No More BS\u2019 campaign, which is calling for the resignations of Karren Brady and David Sullivan.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis campaign was not aimed at your predecessors. It is not aimed at you and your team, and we would like to take this opportunity to make it absolutely clear that you have our full support.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe decision to hold a boycott was not taken lightly, but we believe that given the serious nature of the damage that will continue to be inflicted on our club while Ms Brady and Mr Sullivan remain in place, it is a necessary and justifiable step that must be taken,\u201d continued the letter.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are already seeing signs that Ms Brady and Mr Sullivan are extremely worried, and that pressure is being brought to bear in a variety of different ways, as they attempt to entice fans to break ranks and attend the game.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe expect this to escalate as the day of the game approaches, and we have no doubt that Ms Brady and Mr Sullivan would not hesitate to take any measures designed to disrupt the boycott, including those which would sow division among the fans, and division between the fans and the team.<\/p>\n

Who Owns West Ham?<\/h2>\n

West Ham’s ownership is split among five different groups.<\/p>\n

Each owns less than a controlling majority share, meaning no one group has total authority.<\/p>\n

But the largest shareholder is chairman David Sullivan, who owns just less than 40% of West Ham.<\/p>\n
