Newcastle’s dreadful away form in the Premier League continued with a bitterly disappointing 3-1 defeat by Brentford on Sunday afternoon.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Newcastle’s Concerning Away Form<\/h2>\n

Newcastle have now lost three consecutive matches on the road in the Premier League and are one of four sides remaining in the division yet to record an away victory this term.<\/p>\n

Their 3-1 loss to Brentford, in which they initially took the lead through Harvey Barnes on 27 minutes, followed on from defeats by relegation-threatened West Ham as well as Brighton.<\/p>\n

Similarly to their defeat at the Gtech Community Stadium, Newcastle went in front after just four minutes against the Hammers. They went on to lose 3-1 at the London Stadium.<\/p>\n

Other away results this season include draws against Bournemouth, Leeds and Aston Villa.<\/p>\n

In total, they have played six away matches in the English top-flight since the start of the campaign, with their record standing at zero wins, three draws and three defeats.<\/p>\n

Having amassed just three points from these fixtures, the Tyneside club sit in 15th place in the away table. This puts them level with Brentford, Burnley and Leeds, but ahead of Nottingham Forest, Fulham and Wolves, who are the other three sides yet to win on the road this season.<\/p>\n

Despite their dreadful away form domestically, they recorded an emphatic win in their sole away fixture in Europe. That came in the form of a 4-0 thumping of Belgian side Union Saint-Gilloise.<\/p>\n

Pressure Mounting on Eddie Howe<\/h2>\n

With Newcastle sitting in 14th place in the league table, just two points above the relegation zone, and there being major concerns over their away form, pressure is mounting on Howe.<\/p>\n

He led the club to their first domestic trophy in over 70 years by winning the Carabao Cup last term, but reports suggest that the Englishman may be replaced if results don’t pick up soon.<\/p>\n

But who could replace Howe at the helm in Tyneside?<\/p>\n

Barcelona legend Xavi, who is currently out of a job, also features highly in the betting market, and so do Brendan Rodgers and ex-Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag.<\/p>\n

Patience is running thin among fans, but despite their concerns, Newcastle’s owners are said to be fully behind Howe and are backing him to turn their league form around.<\/p>\n

Upon returning from the international window, they host Manchester City in the league, before a trip to Marseille in the Champions League, followed by a visit to Merseyside to face Everton.<\/p>\n

Should their poor run of form continue in these matches and throughout the Christmas period, Howe could lose his backing from the St James’ Park hierarchy, and they may look to bring in a new manager ahead of the January transfer window.<\/p>\n

Anthony Elanga – Flop of the Season?<\/h2>\n

Another concern for the Magpies is the form of Anthony Elanga.<\/p>\n

The winger joined the club from Nottingham Forest for a reported \u00a355m fee in the summer.<\/p>\n

Thus far though, the move hasn’t worked out. In 17 appearances across all competitions, the Sweden international is yet to register a single goal or assist for his new club.<\/p>\n

This is a major drop in form from his six goals and 12 assists in 43 appearances last season.<\/p>\n

His underwhelming start in the North East has seen him start just four of Newcastle’s 11 league matches in 2025-26, with Anthony Gordon, Jacob Murphy and Barnes preferred ahead of him.<\/p>\n

Given the fee that was paid for him, some are now labelling him as the ‘flop of the season’.<\/p>\n
