{"id":69974,"date":"2025-11-17T14:48:36","date_gmt":"2025-11-17T14:48:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.sportscasting.com\/uk\/?p=69974"},"modified":"2025-11-17T14:48:36","modified_gmt":"2025-11-17T14:48:36","slug":"betfair-chase-runners-haydock-park-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sportscasting.com\/uk\/news\/betfair-chase-runners-haydock-park-2025\/","title":{"rendered":"Betfair Chase Runners: Two-Time Winner Royale Pagaille Tops Seven"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>There are only seven Betfair Chase runners remaining for Saturday&#8217;s big Haydock Grade One race &#8211; which are topped in the market by last year&#8217;s second Grey Dawning and two-time winner Royale Pagaille.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Grey Dawning Looking To Improve On Last Year&#8217;s Second\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Twelve months ago, the Dan Skelton-trained Grey Dawning looked to have the Betfair Chase in the bag with a few to jump.<\/p>\n<p>However, after hitting the front, the grey was out-gunned by Haydock specialist Royale Pagaille &#8211; who eventually won by two lengths (watch below).<\/p>\n<p>Despite this, the bookies are still making Grey Dawning the one to beat in the 2025 Betfair Chase.<\/p>\n<p>As Grey Dawning is set to go off the clear favourite for Saturday&#8217;s big <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportscasting.com\/uk\/news\/itv-racing-schedule-today\/\">ITV Racing<\/a> contest at 3pm.<\/p>\n<p>Since his second in the race last season, Grey Dawning was pulled up at Kempton on Boxing Day in the King George VI Chase.<\/p>\n<p>Won the Premier Chase at Kelso and was last seen coming a decent second to Gaelic Warrior at Aintree in the Bowl Chase in April.<\/p>\n<p>Off a mark of 166 he&#8217;ll also be the top-rated in the field and will be hoping to give in-form trainer Dan Skelton a second Betfair Chase win.<\/p>\n<p>Having won the prize with Protektorat in 2022.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>WATCH: Grey Dawning Running Second In The 2024 Betfair Chase<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><iframe title=\"Full Race: Betfair Chase\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/KnhZmxIlLoo?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h2>Can Royale Pagaille Join Bristol De Mai, Cue Card and Kauto Star As A Three-Time Betfair Chase Winner?<\/h2>\n<p>As mentioned, last year&#8217;s winner Royale Pagaille is also one of the remaining Betfair Chase runners for 2025.<\/p>\n<p>He took the race in 2023 as well and even though he&#8217;s not won since landing the 2024 renewal, is a horse that you can&#8217;t write off back here at Haydock.<\/p>\n<p>In short, he simply loves this track.<\/p>\n<p>Royale Pagaille has raced here eight times and won five of those.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, from his six career wins over fences, he&#8217;s only ever won away from Haydock once &#8211; which came at Kempton back in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>He was last seen being pulled-up in the Aintree Grand National and before that was sixth in the Cheltenham Gold Cup.<\/p>\n<p>Is back from a 231-day break, but has won the last two renewals of the Betfair Chase on his return.<\/p>\n<p>So rule out Royale Pagaille at your peril.<\/p>\n<p>If this popular Venetia Williams chaser can win the race again at the age off 11.<\/p>\n<p>He&#8217;ll become the joint oldest winner with Kauto Star (2011).<\/p>\n<p>Plus also join Bristol De Mai and Cue Card as past three-time winners. year will be the Rebecca Curtis-trained Haiti Couleurs.<\/p>\n<p>This eight year-old was a good winner of the National Hunt Chase at the 2025 Cheltenham Festival in March.<\/p>\n<p>Has since come out to land the Irish Grand National (watch below) and returned earlier this month to win over hurdles at Newbury.<\/p>\n<p>Trainer Rebecca Curtis, who is yet to win the Betfair Chase, will be hoping for a big run here which will give her a better idea if this improving stayer chaser is up to Cheltenham Gold Cup level.<\/p>\n<p>He&#8217;s around 25\/1 for the Cheltenham Gold Cup, but a win on Saturday
