Marc-Andr\u00e9 ter Stegen has been told his future is in his hands as Tottenham look towards the Barcelona stopper as a potential replacement in goal.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Spurs boss Thomas Frank could be in the market for a new goalkeeper with Guglielmo Vicario coming under fire for his drop in form.<\/p>\n

The Italian endured a nightmare showing in the 3-0 defeat against Nottingham Forest last weekend, adding pressure to Frank’s position<\/a> in the dugout at the club.<\/p>\n

Tottenham have been linked with James Trafford<\/a> after Gianluigi Donnarumma’s arrival left him warming the bench at Manchester City.<\/p>\n

However, Spanish publication Sport suggests Ter Stegen could also be an option.<\/p>\n

Tottenham linked with Marc-Andre ter Stegen<\/h2>\n

Ter Stegen has a contract at Barcelona until the summer of 2028, but has slipped down the pecking order due to injuries.<\/p>\n

Joan Garcia is the club’s first choice, while former Arsenal man Wojciech Szczesny provides backup.<\/p>\n

Ter Stegen was linked with a move away from Barcelona in the summer, but he was happy to remain at the club due to the lack of suitable options on offer.<\/p>\n

The same applies in the January transfer window, but the report suggests a potential move to Tottenham could tempt him.<\/p>\n

The 33-year-old’s family are settled in the city and have no desire to move, but the temptation of regular first-team football at a club which aligns with his own project would take serious consideration.<\/p>\n

His wages could prove problematic, as he’s not willing to sacrifice his salary at Barcelona, but manager Hansi Flick has left the door open for his departure.<\/p>\n

Ter Stegen in timely performance reminder<\/h2>\n

Ter Stegen was handed a rare start in their Copa Del Rey victory over Guadalajara on Tuesday – his first this season – and turned in an impressive showing.<\/p>\n

After the game, Flick said: “He had the opportunity to return, and he took it. He has given a lot to the club and must be respected.”<\/p>\n

The German coach did emphasise that Garcia will be back in goal for their upcoming clash with Villarreal on Sunday.<\/p>\n

However, his performance will encourage Tottenham that he still has the quality to play for a top club despite missing the majority of last season with a back injury.<\/p>\n

Ahead of Tuesday’s game, Flick spoke about Ter Stegen’s future and suggested he wouldn’t stand in his way if another club came calling.<\/p>\n

He added: “I think it is his decision. We have spoken about his situation and I respect Marc a lot because he is a great goalkeeper and personally is a good person for the team.<\/p>\n
