Liverpool are closing in on their first signing of the January window with the arrival of young central defender Mor Ndiaye.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The left-sided centre-back has just turned 18 and looks set to leave the Senegalese side Amitie FC for Liverpool after agreeing verbal terms.<\/p>\n

Who is incoming Liverpool defender Mor Ndiaye?<\/h2>\n

Standing at 6ft 2′, Ndiaye is a towering prospect and a player who has been identified as one for the future in the heart of Liverpool’s defence.<\/p>\n

He developed in Amitie’s academy in Senegal’s second tier, where his physical dominance and composure on the ball caught the attention of European scouts.<\/p>\n

His potential was further highlighted during the 2023 FIFA U-17 World Cup, where he was a standout performer for Senegal.<\/p>\n

Ndiaye started all four matches for Senegal before being knocked out by France on penalties following a 0-0 draw in their round of 16 tie.<\/p>\n

He recorded a 90% passing accuracy and was noted for winning over 70% of his aerial duels during the tournament.<\/p>\n

Ndiaye fits the mould of a modern defender with a combination of physical attributes and the ability to be comfortable in possession.<\/p>\n

In Senegal, he is already being tipped as the long-term successor to Kalidou Koulibaly in the national team.<\/p>\n

Ndiaye will head straight into Liverpool’s Under-21 side, where he will join Rob Page\u2019s Under-21 squad to adapt to English football, though he is expected to train with the first team immediately.<\/p>\n

That will also allow Amara Nallo to leave the club on loan this month, with a move to the Championship a possibility.<\/p>\n

Liverpool and Marc Guehi latest<\/h2>\n

Boss Arne Slot is still in the market for a centre-back who can come and make an immediate impact in his squad.<\/p>\n

Ibrahim Konate’s contract expires at the end of the season, and it appears increasingly likely he’ll depart on a free transfer.<\/p>\n

Virgil van Dijk turns 36 at the end of the campaign, and Liverpool want a long-term replacement for their club captain.<\/p>\n

Guehi is the obvious target for Liverpool as the Crystal Palace defender prepares to leave Selhurst Park, but competition for his signature is rife.<\/p>\n

Manchester City are prepared to bid \u00a335million this month<\/a>, despite him being available for free in the summer, as they look to ward off rivals.<\/p>\n

Barcelona, Real Madrid, Arsenal and Bayern Munich are also thought to be interested.<\/p>\n

It’s believed Liverpool are also open to parting with cash for Guehi this month to prevent Man City’s advancements, but convincing the England international may prove more tricky.<\/p>\n

Reports suggest Guehi is in no rush to make a move and will happily make a decision on his future in the summer and after the World Cup, when he becomes a free agent.<\/p>\n
