Millwall’s chances of signing goalkeeper Anthony Patterson have taken a blow after Sunderland missed out on the chance to sign Jonas Omlin.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Patterson was expected to leave<\/a> the Black Cats this month on loan after losing his place in the side to Robin Roefs.<\/p>\n

A host of Championship clubs have been looking into his availability, including QPR, West Brom and Stoke City.<\/p>\n

Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris would not stand in Patterson’s way of securing regular first-team football if they could sign a replacement.<\/p>\n

Sunderland Miss Out On Jonas Omlin<\/h2>\n

Last week, Sunderland held talks with Borussia Monchengladbach goalkeeper Omlin<\/a> over a potential loan deal until the end of the campaign.<\/p>\n

The 32-year-old keeper is the club\u2019s second-choice and has yet to make an appearance in the league this season.<\/p>\n

However, they appear to have missed out on his signature with Omlin instead opting for Bayer Leverkusen.<\/p>\n

Omlin was spotted at the club’s training ground on Monday and is set to undergo a medical ahead of his expected signing.<\/p>\n

Leverkusen’s necessity for a goalkeeper was amplified this month when current No1 Mark Flekken was ruled out in the long-term with a knee injury.<\/p>\n

Omlin would have arrived at Sunderland as their second choice, given the impressive form of Roefs.<\/p>\n

Sunderland are now expected to turn their interests elsewhere and look to bring in a new stopper before the close of the transfer window this month.<\/p>\n

Anthony Patterson To Millwall?<\/h2>\n

After Millwall emerged as the frontrunners to sign Patterson, that deal now hangs in the balance and could go down to the wire.<\/p>\n

Boss Alex Neil and Patterson worked together when the former was manager of Sunderland during the 2021\/22 campaign.<\/p>\n

Neil chose to make the young goalkeeper his undisputed number one, starting him over more experienced options like Bayern Munich loanee Ron-Thorben Hoffmann.<\/p>\n

Last week, Le Bris was asked about the possibility of Patterson leaving in which he insinuated that a deal would suit all parties.<\/p>\n

He said: \u201cIt\u2019s tough to speak about individual players, but the whole idea is still the same.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor players who need minutes, the conversation is still open, and if we can find an agreement, positive for both sides, the club and them, we\u2019ll move forward.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt the minute nothing is official for any players, but we\u2019re working hard behind the scenes.\u201d<\/p>\n

Patterson was Sunderland\u2019s first-choice stopper for three years in the Championship and has made over 150 senior appearances for the Black Cats, including two promotions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
