NEC Nijmegen have identified Rangers striker Danilo as their top January transfer target.<\/p>\n
The former Feyenoord striker arrived at Ibrox for \u00a36million in 2023 but looks set for a return to Holland.<\/p>\n
He is reportedly one of several players Rangers are willing to offload this month.<\/p>\n
With NEC flying high in fourth place in the Eredivisie, the Dutch side is eager to bring in a proven goalscorer with extensive experience in the Netherlands.<\/p>\n
Danilo is no stranger to Dutch football, having enjoyed successful spells at Ajax, FC Twente, and Feyenoord before his move to Scotland.<\/p>\n
His intimate knowledge of the league makes him a low-risk, high-reward option for NEC manager Dick Schreuder.<\/p>\n
The Nijmegen club is in desperate need of attacking reinforcements following the sale of Kento Shiogai to Wolfsburg and an injury to Youssef El Kachati.<\/p>\n
Currently, Koki Ogawa remains the club’s only fit senior striker, making the acquisition of a proven finisher like Danilo a priority before the transfer window closes.<\/p>\n
Despite arriving with high expectations, Danilo’s time in Scotland has been marred by serious injuries, including a severe knee problem that ended his debut campaign prematurely.<\/p>\n
Under current Rangers boss Danny Rohl, the Brazilian has struggled to reclaim a consistent starting spot.<\/p>\n
Although he has managed 28 appearances across all competitions this season, a return of just four goals has seen him fall down the pecking order behind Bojan Miovski and Youssef Chermiti.<\/p>\n
Reports suggest Rohl is keen to reduce the club’s wage bill to fund his own January targets, with Danilo and midfielder Nedim Bajrami among those made available for transfer.<\/p>\n
While Rangers would ideally like to recoup a significant portion of the fee paid to Feyenoord, a loan deal with an option to buy may be the most realistic path for NEC.<\/p>\n
The Brazilian still has a contract at Ibrox until 2028, but the lure of guaranteed first-team football in a league where he has previously thrived could prove decisive.<\/p>\n
Danilo’s goal-scoring record in the Eredivisie is impressive, particularly his 17-goal haul during a loan spell at FC Twente.<\/p>\n
