Sponsorships And Marketing Provide Vital Support Says Betting And Gaming Council"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The Betting and Gaming Council (BGC) has underlined the important contribution betting companies make to the economy through spending on marketing and sponsorship.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The benefits provided by marketing activity from regulated operators are highlighted in a new <a href=\"https:\/\/bettingandgamingcouncil.com\/news\/gambling-advertising-and-sponsorship-report-2025\">BGC advertising and sponsorship report<\/a>, prepared independently by Alvarez and Marsal.<\/p>\n<p>There is political pressure to restrict gambling advertising in the UK but that would only impact licensed companies.<\/p>\n<p>Premier League clubs have already agreed to a ban on front of shirt sponsorship from betting companies from the start of next season.<\/p>\n<p>The BGC report stresses that &#8220;lower levels or grass roots of certain sports are largely dependent on gambling advertising and sponsorship&#8221;.<\/p>\n<h2>Sport Sponsorships Under Threat<\/h2>\n<p>Betting and Gaming operators spent \u00a3138 million on sponsorship from October 2023 to September 2024.<\/p>\n<p>One of the most successful is Paddy Power\u2019s association with the World Darts Championship.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_75782\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-75782\" style=\"width: 560px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-75782\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sportscasting.com\/uk\/news\/flutter-paddy-power-1-25m-gbp-for-prostate-cancer\/\">raised over \u00a31.25 million for charity<\/a> at the recent tournament.<\/p>\n<p>Several bookmakers are reviewing their sponsorship commitments in the current economic climate.<\/p>\n<p>Coral has withdrawn its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportscasting.com\/uk\/news\/bookmaker-coral-end-cheltenham-festival-sponsorship\/\">sponsorship of the Cheltenham Festival<\/a> in cost-cutting measures, ending its 74-year association with National Hunt racing\u2019s most prestigious meeting.<\/p>\n<h2>Impact Of Gambling Tax Hikes<\/h2>\n<p>It is a time of financial uncertainty for the UK betting industry.<\/p>\n<p>New tax levies are being imposed over the next two financial years.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportscasting.com\/uk\/news\/william-hill-evoke-shop-closures\/\">William Hill owner Evoke<\/a> says some of its high street shops will close as a result of the gambling tax hikes.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-72945\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sportscasting.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2025\/12\/william-hill--560x333.jpg\" alt=\"William Hill\" width=\"560\" height=\"333\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sportscasting.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2025\/12\/william-hill--560x333.jpg 560w, https:\/\/www.sportscasting.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2025\/12\/william-hill--350x208.jpg 350w, https:\/\/www.sportscasting.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2025\/12\/william-hill-.jpg 740w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 560px) 100vw, 560px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>All of the new measures are a result of Chancellor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportscasting.com\/uk\/news\/remote-gaming-duty-uk-budget-2025\/\">Rachel Reeves\u2019 autumn Budget<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Remote Gaming Duty will almost double from 21% to 40% in April for the likes of online casino games and bingo.<\/p>\n<p>The tax payable on gross profits from remote sports betting will rise from 15% to 25% in April next year.<\/p>\n<h2>Gambling Advertising Spend Down<\/h2>\n<p>There has been a steady decline in gambling advertising by regulated operators since 2021.<\/p>\n<p>It made up 3% of the total advertising spend in the UK in 2023 and dropped to 2.7% in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>There has been a positive shift of focus though, with 20% of all betting advertising promoting player protection and safer gambling.<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/euN4sf80w9U?si=rAokT4Ii8QXyJI24\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>GB-licensed operators spent \u00a31.15 billion on gambling advertising from October 2023 to September 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Digital advertising accounted for a hefty \u00a3768 million out of that total.<\/p>\n<p>Broadcast advertising was nearly 30% of that spend with \u00a3341 million.<\/p>\n<h2>Contribution To The UK Economy<\/h2>\n<p>The BGC report estimates that marketing and sponsorship activity from regulated operators supports 9,900 jobs.<\/p>\n<p>It contributes around \u00a3506 million in gross value added across the marketing, creative and media networks supporting the advertising and sponsorship activity.<\/p>\n<p>Activity within businesses commissioned by operators in the regulated industry accounts for \u00a3251 million.<\/p>\n<p>A further \u00a3255 million is from the broader supply chain around those businesses.<\/p>\n<h2>Raising Standards<\/h2>\n<p>Grainne Hurst, CEO of the BGC, is keen to stress the positives from regulated marketing campaigns.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis independent analysis shows that gambling advertising by licensed operators is continuing to fall.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Spend is increasingly concentrated on safer gambling messaging and consumer protections.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur members operate within some of the strictest advertising rules of any industry.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They continue to raise standards across the sector.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Adam Rivers, Managing Director at Alvarez &amp; Marsal, confirmed that the report was based on data gathered from licensed
