Darwin Nunez is close to ending his brief spell in Saudi Arabia and returning to Europe with Fenerbahce this week.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The former Liverpool striker only joined Al Hilal in August but is reportedly looking to leave, having failed to adapt to life in the Middle East.<\/p>\n

Nunez has failed to hit the heights expected of him after making his \u20ac53million switch, scoring just six league goals in 16 matches.<\/p>\n

His future was further thrown in doubt this week when Al Hilal completed a deal to sign Karim Benzema from Al-Ittihad.<\/p>\n

Despite the English transfer window closing on Monday, clubs in Turkey have until Friday to complete their deals.<\/p>\n

Darwin Nunez Return To England<\/h2>\n

A deal is likely to see Nunez sign for Fenerbahce on loan until the end of the season with an option to buy.<\/p>\n

The Turkish side can afford to pay a large chunk of the Uruguayans significant pay packet and are also competing in European competitions.<\/p>\n

It could also see Nunez make a return to England in the near future, with Fenerbahce set to take on Nottingham Forest in their Europa League play-off encounter.<\/p>\n

Fenerbahce hosts Sean Dyche’s men on February 19 before heading to the City Ground a week later to determine who books their spot in the Round of 16.<\/p>\n

Nunez has history at Nottingham Forest when he broke home fans’ hearts with a 99th-minute winner for Liverpool in March 2024.<\/p>\n

At the time, it was the latest winning goal ever scored by Liverpool in Premier League history and also broke their ‘City Ground curse,’ marking the club’s first league win at that stadium in 40 years.<\/p>\n

Fenerbahce have been busy this month as they work on terminating the contract of forward Jhon Duran, while they confirmed the signing of midfielder N’Golo Kante.<\/p>\n

Liverpool Defender Struggles In Defeat<\/h2>\n

Meanwhile, new Liverpool defender Jeremy Jacquet had a disappointing night for Rennes in their 3-0 cup defeat against Marseille on Tuesday evening.<\/p>\n

Jacquet signed for the Reds for \u00a360million last month but will continue to play at Rennes until the summer before moving to Anfield.<\/p>\n

The 20-year-old went up against Arsenal loanee Ethan Nwaneri, who was heavily criticised for making a ‘horror’ tackle.<\/a><\/p>\n

Nwaneri launched into a tackle on opponent Glen Kamara, who is a former Arsenal academy graduate.<\/p>\n

He misses the ball, and replays clearly showed his studs caught the angle of Kamara, who writhed on the floor in pain.<\/p>\n
