Vanessa Bryant’s Heartbreaking First Words Since Kobe Bryant’s Passing

It has been a challenging last few days since the tragic loss of former Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant and his 13-year-old daughter Gianna, who were among the nine lost in a helicopter crash. That has devastated the Bryant family, with much of that focus being on how Vanessa Bryant is coping with the situation. It’s difficult to imagine what she is going through emotionally right now. In light of that, she has made her first social media post, expressing her emotions since the incident.

Vanessa and Kobe Bryant’s relationship history

Although Kobe kept his private life out of the limelight, his relationship with his wife over the years had been a massive part of he was.

Bryant had met his wife, Vanessa Laine, while she was a background dancer for a music video. That was during the time that he was working towards putting a music album together, in which the two began dating and were engaged six months after that in May 2000 and got married in April 2001.

There had been some rocky points in their relationship with the sexual assault case that involved Bryant in 2003, but the two moved through it. The two had a strong bond over the years that saw the former Lakers star even learn how to speak Spanish because of his wife through watching novelas (Spanish soap operas) with her and his mother-in-law.

Another example of Bryant’s love for his wife was that he learned how to play Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata to play for her as a gift in 2011.
The two had four children together and looked to be building an even stronger relationship since Bryant’s retirement. That has taken this entire tragedy to another level of devastation and sadness.

My girls and I want to thank the millions of people who’ve shown support and love during this horrific time. Thank you for all the prayers. We definitely need them. We are completely devastated by the sudden loss of my adoring husband, Kobe — the amazing father of our children; and my beautiful, sweet Gianna — a loving, thoughtful, and wonderful daughter, and amazing sister to Natalia, Bianka, and Capri. We are also devastated for the families who lost their loved ones on Sunday, and we share in their grief intimately. There aren’t enough words to describe our pain right now. I take comfort in knowing that Kobe and Gigi both knew that they were so deeply loved. We were so incredibly blessed to have them in our lives. I wish they were here with us forever. They were our beautiful blessings taken from us too soon. I’m not sure what our lives hold beyond today, and it’s impossible to imagine life without them. But we wake up each day, trying to keep pushing because Kobe, and our baby girl, Gigi, are shining on us to light the way. Our love for them is endless — and that’s to say, immeasurable. I just wish I could hug them, kiss them and bless them. Have them here with us, forever. Thank you for sharing your joy, your grief and your support with us. We ask that you grant us the respect and privacy we will need to navigate this new reality. To honor our Team Mamba family, the Mamba Sports Foundation has set up the MambaOnThree Fund to help support the other families affected by this tragedy. To donate, please go to MambaOnThree.org. To further Kobe and Gianna’s legacy in youth sports, please visit MambaSportsFoundation.org. Thank you so much for lifting us up in your prayers, and for loving Kobe, Gigi, Natalia, Bianka, Capri and me. #Mamba #Mambacita #GirlsDad #DaddysGirls #Family ❤️

The last several days, there has been plenty of support voiced towards Vanessa and her family as they grieve the loss of Kobe and Gianna. It has been a tough time for them to come to terms with what this tragedy has brought.

In this troubling time, she pieced together a heartfelt social media post on Wednesday night that saw her voice her grief and love for her husband and daughter. Her message displayed just how difficult it has been for her and her family these past few days and will continue to be.

The fact that she was able to muster out any sort of public message this soon from the situation is quite courageous on her and her family’s behalf.

Kobe Bryant’s legacy

There will be those that remember Bryant for what did on the court throughout his illustrious 20-year NBA career. He established himself as one of the greatest players ever, but it was his impact that went far beyond the court.

Bryant was a mentor to the younger generation while providing many of his peers with motivation to further hone their craft behind his “Mamba Mentality.” In retirement, he had continued to take that up a notch with becoming more of a mentor to many of the league’s young stars while dedicating more time to his family.

Beyond his other projects, such as his own book publishing company and other ventures, he had made time to coach his daughter’s team. He purchased and opened up a training facility so that many other families could access it. There was another side to him that many were beginning to see through his interactions with his family that made him more relatable and respected.

It’s been a tough situation for all the families affected, but it’s time that will bring them closer together to honor those that were lost.
