It has been a tough last several weeks for the Washington Football team as they finally dropped the Redskins team name. It may have taken much longer than expected, but the franchise is heading in a new direction with a completely new identity and image. With that in mind, the organization may have just hinted at its next name behind a fan’s suggestion.
Washington finally changes their team name
The push for a team name change ramped up for Washington over the last few months due to the strong efforts for social change in the United States.
Team owner Daniel Snyder had been quite firm in pushing back against the criticism about his franchise retaining their previous name. However, it saw several of the team’s significant financial partners up the ante to get that change moving forward. FedEx, who holds the naming rights to the franchise’s stadium under a $205 million deal that extends through 2025, sent a request for the team to change their name.
It has also seen sponsors, such as Nike, Amazon, and Pepsi, pressuring the organization to make that move. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell chimed in on the situation with him supporting a name change. That backed Snyder into the corner of having to change Washington’s team name due to massive financial reasons.
It may not have been a move that he wanted to make, but it opens the door to an entirely new era for the organization. That looks to have seen them possibly hint at their next name.

Since announcing a team name change to the Washington Football Team, the franchise has sifted through options.
That has seen them utilize their social media platforms to garner strong feedback from their fan base. Washington may have finally given a telling hint about what direction they are heading in by sharing one fan’s suggestion for the Red Wolves.
It has been one of the most prominent suggestions over the last couple of months alongside the Red Tails, Warriors, and Sentinels. That is one that many fans aired out as a possible choice as it has garnered strong momentum. The fact that they would single out that name via social media should raise attention.
Throughout the process, Washington has remained open to all names, which makes it interesting that they would comment on that choice specifically. Granted, the team is promoting fans emailing them suggestions; it does give insight to which ones that the team is looking at closely.
