One of the best methods for measuring an NFL prospect’s explosiveness is the vertical jump test. It may seem like a simple and old-fashioned measurement, but the simple truth of the matter is that turning in a 40-plus inch vertical at the NFL Scouting Combine can cause a mediocre player’s draft stock to skyrocket.

Most recently, we all witnessed former Georgia and current Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver as well as former UConn and current Dallas Cowboys defensive back Byron Jones blow away the scouts, coaches, and front office executives at the 2015 NFL Combine with 45 and 44.5-inch vertical jumps, respectively.
