What Colin Kaepernick Has Decided to Do Next

Since he last played in the NFL in the 2016 season, Colin Kaepernick has been on the outside looking in. Kaepernick hasn’t worked way back into getting a shot to prove he can make a roster, outside of his work out late last year. However, that hasn’t stopped him from being active in other manners to further provide more voices to his beliefs and standings about other matters away from the game of football. Kaepernick has now made yet another significant move in his life.

Colin Kaepernick’s time away from the NFL

It has been a few years since Kaepernick last graced an NFL football field as he hasn’t worked his way back onto a team’s roster.

The 32-year-old has been highly scrutinized for every move that he makes over the time that has been out of the league. His absence from the NFL has been by choice, but the longer it has drawn out the more questions have arisen concerning whether he will get another shot.

However, Kaepernick has utilized the space to explore and further involve himself in activities that fall within his belief. That has led to him taking another significant step forward with his life away from the game.

Colin Kaepernick’s latest venture

Kaepernick has been quite vocal about his stance towards social injustice throughout the country. He has made a concerted effort to show his involvement in his beliefs.

Kaepernick has now moved further in that direction as he has formed a company called Kaepernick Publishing, which has a partnership with Audible. In tow with that, he announced on Thursday that he is writing a memoir that will be released at some point this year, according to Jarrett Bell of USA TODAY Sports.

“I learned early on that in fighting against systematic oppression, dehumanization and colonization, who controls the narrative shapes the reality of how the world views society,” Kaepernick said. “It controls who’s loved, who’s hated, who’s degraded and who’s celebrated.”

The book will cover what he has done over the last few years since he last played in the NFL. It should likely go into detail as far as what drew him to his activism against social injustice. That should help provide a grander and more detailed picture of his work off the field along with possibly what he hopes to accomplish ahead.

Is Colin Kaepernick still pursuing an NFL comeback?

With Kaepernick deciding to create his own publishing company for his upcoming book, it begs the question about where his future with his NFL future.

Despite his football situation looking bleak at the moment, his desire to get back into the league hasn’t waned one bit.

“My desire to play football is still there,” Kaepernick said. “I still train five days a week. I’m ready to go, I’m ready for a phone call, tryout, workout at any point in time. I’m still waiting on the owners and their partners to stop running from this situation. So I hope I get a call this offseason. I’ll be looking forward to it.”

Kaepernick has made his intentions clear over the years, notably after he conducted his individual workout late last year. It may not have been the one the NFL set up for him, which included a shady waiver, but he voiced that he wants to continue playing football.

It’s just a matter of a team giving him the chance to make a comeback, but there is a great sense that franchises are still hesitant because of the perceived distractions he will bring. Only time will tell if he will ever get that shot to prove that his talent still belongs in the NFL.
