He spent five seasons playing for the Hawks. In those five years in Atlanta, he averaged 16.2 points per game. Terry was traded to the Dallas Mavericks in 2004. In his second and third season with Dallas, he was a regular starter and started in 80 games in both seasons. He averaged double digits in both seasons. Terry was a high-volume shooter from beyond the arc. After the 2007-08 season, he took a reserve role and came off the bench regularly.

After Dallas won the championship, Terry spent one more season with the Mavericks and then signed a deal with the Boston Celtics. In his one season with the Celtics, he averaged 10.1 points. After his time in Boston, he was traded to the Brooklyn Nets. He spent one season in Brooklyn, and he only averaged 4.5 points. Before that, he averaged double digits in points for 13 straight seasons.
