After the 1999 season, he was a finalist for the Jim Thorpe Award, which is awarded to the top defensive back in the country. He also finished 12th in the Heisman Trophy ballot.

Urlacher was named an All-American in 1999. At New Mexico, Urlacher received numerous honors. He finished his career with the third-most career tackles in the school’s history, and he was named the Male Athlete of the Year in 2000. Urlacher was the first person to be inducted into the University of New Mexico’s Football Wall of Fame. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in December of 2017.

Urlacher played a key role on the defensive side and was the spark that they needed. In 2005 he was named the Defensive Player of the Year. Urlacher dealt with some injuries throughout his career, but he continued to play at a high level and remained one of the top defensive players in the league. He finished his career, setting a Bears franchise record with a total of 1,353 tackles throughout his career. Urlacher had a career to remember, and in 2018 he was inducted to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

According to the New York Post, Mets COO Jeff Wilpon would prefer to sell to the Rodriguez-Lopez group if its offer is close to the best bid by the time the auction ends.
