Where Deion Sanders Believes Tom Brady Will Play in 2020
Since the end of the 2019 season, the focus has shifted towards Tom Brady‘s future as the expectation is that he will enter the free-agent market for the first time in his illustrious career. That has put on the table a real possibility that he has played his final game with the New England Patriots. It has also brought many different opinions on the matter about where Brady will wind up in the 2020 season and possibly beyond. With that in mind, Hall of Famer Deion Sanders has aired out what he believes the star quarterback will do later this month.
Tom Brady’s pending free agency
For the first time in his career, Brady has the opportunity to truly test the open market and dictate where he will play next.
The 42-year-old has made it clear that he wants to explore his options as there are several teams such as the Las Vegas Raiders, Los Angeles Chargers, and Indianapolis are all listed as potential suitors. It’s a process that has seen Brady’s agent speak to each of these respective teams at the Scouting Combine this past week.
What has muddied the waters a bit more is that the Patriots have reported not yet spoken to Brady on the matter. There is a little more than two weeks until the start of free agency, which has upped the intensity of the rumor mill around what Brady will do next.
With that in mind, one Hall of Famer has chimed on the matter to stir the pot even more.
Where Deion Sanders thinks Tom Brady will sign
Over the last few weeks, there have been several teams that have been mentioned as landing spots for Brady if he does explore free agency.
However, there is one spot that Sanders believes the future Hall of Famer will wind up in what would be a league-changing scenario. (H/T Josh Schrock of NBC Sports)
“You know what, I have a theory. If it was me, this is just the ‘owner Prime,’ Brady to San Francisco man. Trade Garoppolo back to New England.
“Why not? Let me tell you something. San Francisco has a window of opportunity. You as well as I know that window closes expeditiously. You gotta seize it right now. I love Garoppolo, trust me. Tom Brady’s the quarterback in the Super Bowl? I feel like there’s a different outcome. You got two years, man. Get it done. I would do it. You give New England what they want, you give San Fran what they want.”
It isn’t the first time that the San Francisco 49ers were suggested as a landing spot talk arose before Super Bowl 54. All that centered around Jimmy Garoppolo being the reason why the team lost the game.
Brady has a strong affinity for the franchise as he grew up in the nearby area, where he was a passionate fan of the team and his favorite player was Joe Montana. However, the wrinkle of the Patriots re-acquiring Garoppolo would be quite intriguing and makes it a much more feasible scenario.
Could Tom Brady wind up with the 49ers?
There would be plenty of reasons for Brady to join the 49ers if the team presented itself as a potential landing spot.
San Francisco is coming off A Super Bowl appearance, where they were just one quarter away from becoming champions. They possess arguably the best defense in the league along with a strong set of talent on offense that should have them in the picture to compete for a title next season and potentially beyond.
Meanwhile, the Patriots would receive Garoppolo, who head coach Bill Belichick had drafted to groom into Brady’s eventual replacement. It would allow him to build the team around the 28-year-old as the franchise quarterback in the prime of his career that still has three years left on his contract.
It should be noted that the 49ers have continued to voice that they are happy with Garoppolo at the helm of their offense moving forward. However, this is a scenario that wouldn’t be a total shocker if it unfolded.
