Donovan Peoples-Jones attended one of the top high schools in Michigan for football
Peoples-Jones is a native of Detroit, Michigan, and he attended Detroit Cass Technical High School. Cass Tech is in the heart of Downtown Detroit, and over the years, they have been a powerhouse in football. People-Jones had an impressive career in his final two years there. As a junior, he caught 41 passes for 1,012 yards and 14 touchdowns.
During his senior year, he had 60 receptions for 1,071 yards and 17 touchdowns and averaged 17.8 yards per reception. Peoples-Jones was one of the top players in the state and the country. He received many accolades while he was at Cass Tech. He was named the Michigan Gatorade Player of the Year in 2016 and was named an Under Armour All-American and a USA Today first-team All-American.
In 2016, he led Cass Tech to the Michigan Division I State Championship as they finished with a 14-0 record. He was named the MVP of the state championship game. 247.com rated him as a five-star prospect, and he was the No.1 prospect and receiver in Michigan. Peoples-Jones was a name that many people knew across the state, and he made many big-time plays throughout his high school career.
Donovan Peoples-Jones decided to stay in-state for college
Peoples-Jones decided to commit to the University of Michigan in December of 2016. After committing, he was an early enrollee and started in January of 2017. As a freshman, Peoples-Jones made an immediate impact on the team. He appeared in all 13 games and made seven starts. At the end of his first year, he finished with a total of 654 all-purpose yards. According to 247 Sports, he was named to the Freshman All-American team as a punt returner. He received the team’s Rookie of the Year award after an impressive performance.
As a sophomore, he was named to the All-Big Ten team as a receiver and punt returner. He had a total of 47 receptions for 612 yards and eight touchdowns. Peoples-Jones was a threat to the offense and was a player that Michigan knew they could go to for a big play. His junior year was his final year at Michigan, and he appeared in 11 games and made nine starts. He had 34 receptions for 438 yards with six touchdowns. During his career at Michigan, he appeared in 37 games, making 27 starts, and had a total of 2,155 all-purpose yards with 16 touchdowns.
Donovan Peoples-Jones joining the Cleveland Browns
The Browns selected Peoples-Jones in the sixth round of the 2020 NFL draft. He joined a receiver group featuring Odell Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry. Peoples-Jones has appeared in four games during the 2020 season, and his recent performance against the Bengals stood out.
During that game, he finished with three receptions for 56 yards, and his first career touchdown was a game-winning one. With 16 seconds left in the game, Baker Mayfield hit Peoples-Jones in the corner of the end zone as he fell to the ground reeling the catch in. Your first career touchdown could not have been a better one. Peoples-Jones will help the Browns a lot this season, especially with Beckham missing the season due to injury. The rookie receiver will be a player to watch the remainder of the season.
