Where Does Mike Tyson Live?
Mike Tyson is one of the most fascinating and controversial professional fighters to ever hit the boxing world. Known as “The Baddest Man on the Planet,” Tyson lived through a tumultuous childhood to rise to fame. But his private life caused as much of a stir as his time in the ring.
Allegations of abuse, a rape conviction, and bankruptcy made Tyson tabloid fodder. Now in his mid-50s, Tyson enjoys his time out of the limelight in his spacious Las Vegas home, but has been causing a stir with his for-charity comeback.
Was Mike Tyson the most feared boxer of all-time?
Tyson grew up in a tough neighborhood in Brooklyn and got into plenty of trouble. He was arrested 38 times by the time he was 13. When he was 16, his mother died, leaving him an orphan, but Cus D’Amato, a boxing manager and trainer, would soon become his legal guardian.
His boxing talent got noticed while he was at a juvenile detention facility and led to an amateur career that paved the way for stardom.
His strength and speed made him a tough opponent, and he won his first heavyweight championship in 1986 at the age of 20. From 1987 to 1990, he was the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world, but soon his actions outside the ring would damage his name and stop his professional career.
Full of controversy
Tyson married actress Robin Givens in 1988, and from the start, their marital life was full of strife. Givens claimed Tyson physically abused her. The pair divorced in 1989, and Tyson went on to marry two more times.
In 1991, Tyson was arrested for the rape of an 18-year-old woman in an Indianapolis hotel room. He was convicted of the crime in 1992 and sentenced to six years in prison.
He was released in 1995 after serving only three years and must register as a sex offender for the rest of his life. After his prison release, he worked on a boxing comeback.
In 1996, Evander Holyfield was working on a comeback himself after retiring in 1994 and a showdown was set. Tyson was expected to win without issue, but Holyfield knocked him out in the eleventh round.
The duo rematched in 1997, but was stopped in the third round after Tyson bit off part of Holyfield’s ear, an act he claimed was in retaliation to Holyfield’s repeated headbutt attempts during their 1996 match.
What is Mike Tyson up to today?
According to Top Ten Real Estate Deals, Tyson moved to Henderson, Nevada in 2008 and just recently moved out and down the street to an even bigger house.
His new home is in a gated community, built in 2001, and is 8,149 square feet. The home boasts six bedrooms and six bathrooms, with the master suite looking out onto a private balcony.
The Sun reports that Tyson paid $2.5 million for his new digs, but the outdoor space is worth it. There’s a resort-like swimming pool, complete with a spa for the chilly desert nights, and an outdoor barbecue area makes it the perfect spot to entertain guests. There’s even a separate wine cellar for Tyson to keep stocked up in case an urge to drink some vino hits.
The spacious living room is open and airy and has a fully loaded bar making it the perfect place to relax. There’s even a fireplace in it to keep warm while checking out the view of the backyard.
Tyson has come a long way from being a teenage orphan in New York, and his massive house is a physical testament to that.
