Where Will the NFL Host Super Bowl 56?

Although there is still plenty of fun to be had at Super Bowl 55, it is never too early to think about the future of football.

Patrick Mahomes and Tom Brady — along with their respective teams, the Kansas City Chiefs and Tampa Bay Buccaneers — will square off on February 7. After that, the next meaningful NFL game won’t be played until September 2021.

Ahead of this year’s Big Game, let’s take a look at which cities are hosting the Super Bowl after this year.

Super Bowl 55 is being played in Tampa, Fla.

A Super Bowl matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and Tampa Bay Buccaneers was a trendy pick leading up to the 2020 season.

Football fans got their wish — or, for others, their nightmare. Tom Brady and the Buccaneers are hosting Patrick Mahomes in this year’s Big Game.

Neither is a stranger to the NFL’s biggest stage. Brady won six Super Bowls in 20 seasons with the New England Patriots. Mahomes, of course, won last year’s Big Game against the San Francisco 49ers.

This is the fifth time that the Tampa, Fla., area has hosted a Super Bowl, and the third such instance at Raymond James Stadium. The now-demolished Tampa Stadium hosted the other two games.

Who is hosting next year’s Big Game?

After two consecutive years in Florida, the Big Game is West Coast-bound in 2022.

SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif., will host Super Bowl 56. The Los Angeles Chargers and Rams each play at the league’s newest home-field.

Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas also opened this past season. That launch coincided with the Raiders’ arrival in Las Vegas.

Barring any sudden changes, NBC will air Super Bowl 56. Next year’s Big Game is expected to be the final one that veteran play-by-play voice Al Michaels calls for NBC.

Mike Tirico will likely take over for Michaels on a full-time basis in 2022. As of now, Cris Collinsworth and Michelle Tafoya will also work SB56.

What about future Super Bowls?

The NFL always determines its Super Bowl hosting sites years in advance, and we mostly have an idea of what the future looks like for the league’s biggest stage.

Obviously, this year’s Big Game is occurring in Tampa Bay. The Los Angeles/Inglewood area will host SB56 in 2022.

State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Ariz., will tentatively host Super Bowl 57 in February 2022. The Cardinals’ home field has hosted two Big Games in the past.

Eli Manning, David Tyree, and the New York Giants engineered an upset of Tom Brady and the 18-0 Patriots in February 2008. Seven years later, Patriots cornerback Malcolm Butler intercepted a Russell Wilson pass at the goal-line to give New England its fourth Lombardi Trophy in the Bill Belichick era.

The NFL has not yet decided on an area for Super Bowl 58. New Orleans intended to host that game, but moved their rights back a year — to SB59 — because of Mardi Gras.

Las Vegas and Tampa Bay are both rumored candidates to hold the Big Game in 2024. Las Vegas already been named the host for the 2022 NFL draft.
