Who Will Khabib Nurmagomedov Fight Next?

After almost being choked out himself, Khabib Nurmagomedov secured a choke on Dustin Poirier and submitted him in the third round of their title fight. This marks the 28th consecutive win in the undefeated Russian’s career. So, who will face him next?

This is the fight that everyone, including Khabib Nurmagomedov and his team, are looking to set up again. The two men are both on win streaks in the UFC, and the UFC has tried to set up this fight four times before in the past.

Each time, however, something went wrong and the fight had to be canceled. But with both men defeating everyone that the UFC sends their way, there really is no better fight to make than this one.

Georges St-Pierre

Although St-Pierre has retired again, this is a fight that many have been dreaming of. Along with Ferguson, Nurmagomedov also mentioned that St-Pierre would be someone whom he’d like to face next inside the octagon.

There are a lot of things going against this fight though. St-Pierre is not only retired but he’s also never fought in the same weight class as Nurmagomedov and no one knows if he can make that weight. However, he’s an elite wrestler and he’s one of the greatest of all times, so this would be a great fight to see.

Conor McGregor

Khabib Nurmagomedov decisively beat Conor McGregor in late 2018, but McGregor is still a great fighter and he’s still hungry to fight again. From a sports perspective, there’s not a good reason to see this rematch since McGregor hasn’t earned another title shot, but he’s still McGregor.

McGregor is still easily the biggest star in the UFC, and anytime he fights, everybody involved will make millions. Because of that, from a business perspective, there are millions of good reasons to give McGregor another shot at Nurmagomedov.

McGregor immediately called for a rematch with Nurmagomedov after Nurmagomedov’s victory, but Nurmagomedov’s coaches have shot down that idea of a rematch. Time will tell, however.

Nate Diaz

Although Diaz has been having a lot of success in the welterweight division, he’s actually a career lightweight, just like Nurmagomedov. With Diaz headlining UFC 244 for the inaugural BMF belt, the UFC certainly thinks that Diaz is a championship-caliber fighter.

Most fans think that this fight would be a total mismatch, but the two actually have some beef. The two men and their teams have brawled each other before multiple times in the past. In fact, most recently, Diaz and Nurmagomedov had to be separated by security at a UFC event after an altercation between the two.

So, while the fight may be another dominant performance by Nurmagomedov, the build-up to the fight would be very entertaining, to say the least.

Jorge Masvidal

Similar to Diaz, Masvidal has been fighting at lightweight for the majority of his career. But, if he was given the opportunity to fight Nurmagomedov for the title, he’d probably take it.

The main reason why fans want to see this fight is because of how he neutralized Ben Askren, who is an elite wrestler just like Nurmagomedov. In just 5 seconds, Masvidal knocked out Askren with a flying knee. If Masvidal could do the same to Khabib Nurmagomedov, then that would be a knockout that’d shock the world.

Justin Gaethje

Many fans speculate that Gaethje has the style that will beat Nurmagomedov’s. But Gaethje has yet to earn himself a title fight. He’s an exciting fighter who has some great wrestling. If he can stop Nurmagomedov’s takedowns, then he can probably win the fight.

However, Gaethje has yet to earn himself a title shot. If he gets a few more wins, then he may very well be in line to face Nurmagomedov.
