Who’s the Better Fighter: Amanda Nunes or Nina Ansaroff?

The UFC is many things, and it’s also the home to one of the sports world’s best power couples. Nina Ansaroff, who fights in the women’s strawweight division, is engaged to Amanda Nunes, who’s the champion of the bantamweight and featherweight divisions. Let’s look at which one of these powerful women is the better fighter

As People reports, the couple first met in 2012, back when the UFC didn’t even allow women to fight at its events. They were both MMA fighters, so naturally, they met each other at an MMA gym. They’ve been inseparable ever since. When Nunes won the women’s bantamweight belt in 2016, she became the first openly LGBTQ UFC champ.

Not long after that, Nunes proposed to Ansaroff, and she said yes. Despite being engaged, the two women often train with each other. That said, since they fight at different weight classes, they’ll more than likely never face each other in the octagon. In any case, after suffering a loss to Tatiana Suarez in 2019, Ansaroff took a year off to accomplish something else.

The two have always wanted a family. After that defeat, Ansaroff decided it was a good time to have a kid. People said that, after getting pregnant, she continued to train and stay in shape. People also reported that they expect that she’ll deliver their child, a daughter named Raegan, in September 2020.

Some UFC fans consider the strawweight division as the toughest division for women, and that may be the case. Ansaroff’s early career was marked by several wins, but also several losses. For example, in Ansaroff’s second pro fight, she fought and lost to Carla Esparza, who’d later become the UFC’s first strawweight champion.  By the time that she joined the UFC, she had a record of 6-3.

After yet another rocky start in the UFC, she got her act together and she put on a four-fight win streak, including a dominant performance over Claudia Gadelha, who many consider to be one of the best fighters in the division. After this win, fans and commentators thought that she was close to a title shot, and that one more win would give her just that. However, in her very next fight, she fought and lost to Suarez.

Nunes is the better fighter

Given the fact that Ansaroff never won a championship, it’s pretty clear that her fiancé is the better fighter. Similar to her significant other, Nunes had a rocky start in MMA, since she lost her first pro fight. However, Nunes got her act together after she joined the UFC in 2013. So far, it seems like nobody’s been able to stop her.

After beating the future women’s flyweight champ, Valentina Shevchenko, Nunes fought and beat Miesha Tate for the bantamweight belt. In her first title defense, she knocked Ronda Rousey out in less than a minute, and a few fights later, she moved up in weight and knocked out Cris Cyborg in under a minute as well. With this shocking win, she became the first women’s double champ, and she’s been winning ever since.

Unlike many other double champs, Nunes has been able to defend both of her belts at the same time. Additionally, since she’s an exciting fighter who often knocks her opponents out, she also often gets bonuses. As a result of these facts, she’s easily the breadwinner in the household, as Celebrity Net Worth estimates that she’s worth upwards of $4 million.
