There was a flurry of moves and deals made in the NFL on Sunday, and the Bills and their quarterback Josh Allen got in on the action with a new contract agreement. The deal ensures that the 2024 league MVP will stay in Buffalo for essentially his entire career, as he will earn the most guaranteed money of any player in league history.
Josh Allen Will Earn Most Guaranteed Money In NFL History
Allen had four years left on his original contract that he signed back in 2021. He was tied to the Bills through 2028, and had an annual value of $43 million, including $150 million guaranteed. But he and his agent re-worked the deal based on his performance over the last couple of seasons, and the quarterback’s yearly earnings have been boosted to $55 million per season. He’s added $100 million to his guaranteed money, as well, bumping that number up to $250 million, the most of any player in the NFL, ever.
The previous record was held by Deshaun Watson at the Browns, which was set at $230 million in guarantees.
A new NFL mark: the Bills and Josh Allen reached agreement on a new record-setting six-year, $330 million contract that includes $250 million guaranteed, the largest guarantee ever given to an NFL player, sources tell ESPN.

Josh Allen has been arguably the most productive quarterback in the NFL in recent years, and will now be paid like it. He finished with 40 total touchdowns in 2024 (28 passing, 12 rushing) and limited his interceptions to just 6 all season. His passer rating of 119.6 was the fourth highest in the history of the league.
The Bills have been busy maintaining their roster already this off-season. They’ve brought back a couple of their defensive players, signing Greg Rousseau and Terrell Bernard each to four year contracts, and extended wide receiver Khalil Shakir for another four seasons as well.
While Allen’s new contract holds the most guaranteed money ever, there are still bigger overall deals and annual values that have been signed in the past. He is now on par with guys like Joe Burrow and Jordan Love when it comes to yearly earnings, who are all $5 million behind Dak Prescott. Only Patrick Mahomes has signed a larger contract overall, as the Chiefs gave him a 10-year deal worth $450 million a handful of years back.
