Rose is the first-round leader at the 2025 Masters.
This marks the fifth time Rose has either been the leader or co-leader, passing the previous record of four held by Jack Nicklaus.
This is also the eighth time Rose has had at least a share of the lead after any round at the Masters. Five other golfers have achieved that feat. Unlike Rose, those five golfers own green jackets.
Rose, 44, would like to channel his inner Golden Bear and win his first green jacket. Nicklaus won the Masters six times.
Rose began his round with a 3-under start after three holes. After the first nine, Rose was 5-under.
By the end of his round, Rose was flirting with Greg Norman’s 9-under as the best opening round in Masters’ history. However, Rose bogeyed the final hole to finish 7-under.

Rose holds a three-shot lead over Corey Conners, Scottie Scheffler, and Ludvig Åberg. The trio entered the clubhouse after rounds of 4-under 68.
Scheffler is the golfer to watch as he attempts to win his third green jacket in four years.
Rory McIlroy is one of the sentimental favorites this week as he tries to complete the career grand slam. Things started off great for McIlroy as he stepped onto the 15th tee at 4-under.
However, McIlroy chipped into the water and took a double bogey. He then double-bogeyed 17 to finish the round with an even-par 72.
