The WTA has been rocked with career-changing announcements from Grand Slam champion Petra Kvitova and women’s tennis legend as a player, coach, and broadcaster, Pam Shriver.
On Wednesday, Petra Kvitova was on the list of Wimbledon 2025 wildcards. The 35-year-old two-time Wimbledon champion (2011 and 2014) returned to the WTA Tour in 2025. Thinking this was another step in her comeback journey, fans were somewhat shocked to read her Instagram post hours later.
What Petra Kvitova Said
Kvitova is excited to return to Wimbledon, but she announced that it will be her final time playing at the All England Club. She went on to say that she is not sure what the hardcourt season will look like, but she intends to end her career at the 2025 US Open.
Petra Kvitova is a former World No. 2 (October 2011) and made it to the quarterfinals or better at every Grand Slam including a 2019 Australian Open finals appearance. Kvitova won the 2011 WTA Finals and is the 2016 Rio Olympics bronze medal in women’s singles. She has also won 31 WTA titles and over 630 matches in her nearly 20 year career.

What Pam Shriver Announced
Pam Shriver lost her home in the Los Angeles wildfires and has been dealing with the emotional and physical stress associated with that. Though she was not actively traveling with Donna Vekic during this time, she was still involved as a trusted member of Vekic’s team since 2022.

On Wednesday, Schriver announced that she needs to shift her focus solely to home matters and is stepping down from being a member of Vekic’s team. Shriver is part of the reason that Vekic achieved milestone career successes in 2024 including a Wimbledon semifinals appearance and the Paris Olympics silver medal.
