The Los Angeles Lakers have undergone some serious changes over the past six months. They secured their future in February when they made the shocking trade that brought in Luka Doncic from the Mavericks, and capped off an eventful first half of the 2025 calendar year by completing a sale of the team’s majority ownership.
Doncic Takes To Social Media To Comment On Lakers Situation
The morning after the Lakers were sold at a valuation of $10 billion, Doncic took to social media to give his quick thoughts on the situation.
On Wednesday, it was announced that Jeanie Buss and her family were selling off their majority stake in the team. The buyer was Mark Walter, the same businessman who owns the cross-town Dodgers as well as other entities in the sports world. It not only marked the largest sale of any NBA team in history, but the largest of any North American sports team ever.
Buss will remain in the ownership group as a minority shareholder, which will come out to about 15%, as ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne has reported.
The Lakers are an amazing organization. I’m looking forward to meeting Mark and excited about the future. I am also grateful to Jeanie and the Buss family for welcoming me to LA, and I’m happy that Jeanie will continue to be involved. I look forward to working with both of them…

Doncic, who was of course brought into the fold at a time when Jeanie Buss was in charge, posted about the situation on Twitter.
He stated that he is eager to work with Mark and is excited about the future, but also took time to thank Jeanie and the Buss family for welcoming him to Los Angeles. He mentioned that he is happy that Jeanie will continue to be involved, and added that he looks forward to working with both of them to win championships.
As far as their on-court product, the Lakers will have some work to do this offseason. Despite their big mid-season acquisition, they underwhelmed in the postseason, losing in the first round to the Minnesota Timberwolves in just five games. Their weaknesses were exposed, namely a lack of depth and reliable play from their front court, which are things they will reportedly look to fix over the summer months.
As of Thursday morning, LeBron James had yet to give any kind of comment on the sale of the Lakers.
