The prodigal son has returned to his rightful place.
After missing the 2024 contest, Joey Chestnut is back in the Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest.
Chestnut was banned from participating in the 2024 event due to a dispute between sponsors. Chestnut accepted a deal with Impossible Foods, a plant-based food company and Nathan’s competitor.
Chestnut competed in a 4-on-1 eating competition at Fort Bliss instead. Chestnut downed 57 hot dogs in five minutes to win.
Last September, Chestnut faced his old rival, Takeru Kobayashi, in a hot dog-eating contest on Netflix. Chestnut ate 83 hot dogs compared to Kobayashi’s 66.
Chestnut is back at Coney Island in an attempt to win his 17th Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest.

There is a men’s contest and a women’s contest, with the latter going first in the morning.
Miko Sudo is the No. 5 eater in the world and will look to win her fourth-straight Mustard Belt.
Michelle Lesco, the No. 9 eater in the world, is Sudo’s toughest competition. Lesco won the Mustard Belt in 2021.
2024 champion and No. 2 eater Patrick Bertoletti returns to defend his crown and beat Chestnut. Other notable eaters in the male competition include No. 3 eater Geoffrey Esper and No. 4 eater James Webb.
The male and female winners will receive $10,000 each.
The action kicks off with the women’s competition at 10:45 a.m. ET on ESPN3. Sudo will have a camera on her at all times on ESPN3.
The male competition airs at noon on ESPN2. Like Suso, Chestnut will also receive his own cam that fans can watch on ESPN3.
The contest will re-air at 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. ET on ESPN and 6 p.m. ET on ESPN2.
