Becky Hammon Shows Frustration With Las Vegas Aces Struggles In 2025

The Las Vegas Aces spent the past six years being arguably the most successful team in the WNBA. But things haven’t been quite the same through the first 17 games of 2025, and head coach Becky Hammon expressed some frustration after the team’s most recent embarrassing loss.

Las Vegas Aces Lose Big, Hammon Frustrated With Team’s Effort

Between 2019 and 2024, the Aces posted a regular season record of 150-54. They made three trips to the WNBA Finals in that span, winning twice, and qualified for the semi-finals in every other year. This season, though, they’ve limped out to a record of 8-9, and are in 8th place overall, on the brink of falling out of the playoff picture for good.

They’ve enjoyed some positive moments. Things looked fine when they jumped out to a 4-2 start, and they recently ended a six-game winning streak by the Phoenix Mercury. But they’ve had a handful of downright deplorable losses, including their defeat against the shorthanded Indiana Fever on Thursday night.

Without Caitlin Clark, the Fever was able to handle the Aces with ease. They were able to jump out to a 22-point halftime lead and never looked back, riding Kelsey Mitchell’s 25-point performance in the absence of their star point guard. The final tally wound up being 81-54 in favor of Indiana, a result that sparked Hammon into expressing her dissatisfaction:

“That’s a complete lack of professionalism to come here with that effort…They got all the 50/50 balls. They busted our ass in every kind of way. There’s just no bones about it. It’s one of the worst games I’ve ever seen.”

The loss for the Aces was their sixth double-digit defeat of the season, and their fourth by at least 20 points.

Reigning league MVP A’ja Wilson scored 29 points in the loss to Indiana, her third-highest scoring total in any game this year. But no other player on the roster contributed more than 6 points, with three of the Aces’ starters combining to score 6 points.

Las Vegas will look to right the ship in Sunday’s game against the Connecticut Sun, who are by far the worst team in the WNBA this season. As of Friday afternoon, the Aces were listed as 16.5-point favorites for the contest.
